I was thinking the same. I'll have to check it out.
Was not coming into this thread expecting to see Joyce Manor (although I do enjoy that album a good bit) or Murder City Devils. Didn’t realize they put something out that late.
I don’t love Kanye at all, but that album is pretty great, not even for him. The guest verses are all fantastic and just the whole way he put it together is impressive.
The Hotelier - Home, Like No Place is There is one of my favorites.
Restorations - LP2
Both two good indie/emo/punkish record.

Doesn’t work that way. Plus I don’t even know the performers you are referencing or even what you are talking about in your post. Why? I’m living life and posting on letsrun.
Maybe I'm dense, but isn't music part of life? Sound is one of our 5 senses... I listen to, and seek out, a lot of music. It's something I enjoy a lot. But it's only part of my life, and I do lots of other (interesting) things.
Honestly until ~1.5 years ago I thought everyone else was constantly trying to find new, interesting music to listen to.
Also, if you don't know the artists - isn't that more of a reason to check them out?
I'm a 60 year old former high school distance runner from California who also used to play trumpet in high school jazz band!
Endless Forms Most Beautiful - Nightwish
Dimash 2017

Gretta Van Fleet Anthem of the Peaceful Army
rap and suicide music are being surplanted by neo music and new forms of 60's retro.

You obviously know more about music than probably anyone else in this thread, so maybe spend more time engaging with the people who are actually taking about the music instead of the one dude who is obviously trolling you?

2014's "Lost in the Dream" by The War on Drugs is the overwhelming choice for me.
This album is ok but it's way too derivative proto-Springstein to truly be considered a best of anything.
Only really of use to these guys who haven't purchased an album since the mid 80s and would site the boss, AC/DC, maybe Metallic and the likes as the "greatest" artists ever.
Trouble Will Find Me, by The National
Amazing sounds and progression through the whole album. The lead singer's voice is almost an instrument in itself. The lyrics are the perfect blend of non-nonsensical and storytelling.
I also think their first album of this decade (High Violet) was amazing, too.

About the only thing that comes to mind for me is a really fantastic garage band/grunge type of band from Seattle called "Murder City Devils". They released an album in 2014, late in their career, with some real gems.
Album: "The White Ghost Has Blood on Its Hands Again"
one of my favorite songs on that album: Pale disguise" link:

Both good tunes.

No reference to Sleep Well Beast or I Am Easy To Find?
Kanye West
Yeezus
Funny that MBDTF has been mentioned so many times because while it is a great album, I believe Yeezus is a superior one. Yeezus uses a harsh industrial experimental sound that uses grandiose musical elements and combinds them with crass (often low brow) but hilarious lyrics that paint a picture of how exactly fame has formed West's psyche. It is a brash and arrogant album that I believe is too complex for casual listeners to understand it's greatness. The album's sonic qualities are incredible, possessing some truly amazing sound engineering.
Tame Impala
Currents
I believe this is an album that will stand the test of time as being one of the greatest ever made. It possess an ethereal quality that can make one both ruminate and feel optimism when reflecting on their own life. It contains elements of rock, disco, and electronic, while not being too reliant on any particular genre. The lyrics almost feel like they are directly pointed to the listener as if you are going on some sort of inward journey as opposed to merely listening to music. It's also an incredible album because I feel like I can listen to it and enjoy it no matter what mood I am in, which is a rare quality for an album to have.
Lorde
Melodrama
Lorde is truly a force in the pop genre, who can take listeners along to the depths of her personal despair. The album is grand and engaging, while also having moments of softness and clarity that really poignantly strike the listener's emotions. Listening to Melodrama is a cathartic experience.
A Flash Flood of Colour
Enter Shikari
I don't listen to many band like Enter Shikari, but I am glad I listen to Enter Shikari because A Flash Flood of Colour is one of my favorite all time albums. It combines elements of hardcore and electronic music, making it music that you simultaneously want to dance and fight to. It has very politically charged lyrics that can elicit strong emotions from the listeners, creating a sense of urgency and restlessness upon listening to it. This album has so many layers to it that there is not a singular defining quality that makes it great, but rather how Enter Shikari deftly intertwines so many different musical and thematic elements in making a truly epic album.
Brand New
Science Fiction
The first song had me instantly captivated by the eerie sample used to set up the album's narrative. This album will chill you to the core, but the music has such a gripping and enchanting quality that you will not want to stop listening. It is an emo album that uses haunting and ethereal elements that make you ponder much of life's toughest existential quandaries. Simply put, it is haunting but beautiful.
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy -- Kanye
Random Access Memories -- Daft Punk
Born to Die -- Lana Del Rey
I'm not a huge Kendrick fan, but Good Kid M.A.A.D City, DAMN!, and To Pimp a Butterfly are all pretty critically acclaimed.

Sorry, I just liked TWFM and HV better. Or maybe it's just that I know them better and they've had more years to stand up to other albums.

I’m not gonna say why, but some I enjoyed were:
. . .
Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
. . .
"A More Perfect Union" from the Monitor is my Freebird (in a good way). Titus Andronicus's new album, An Obelisk, is pretty good too.
I Hate Music by Superchunk is my favorite album of the last ten years.
Kidz Bop 32. Hands down.
I was gonna include yeezus, but kind of like you said, for someone trying to get into kanye I thought it would be pretty hard to start with yeezus.
For my personal tastes they would have to be:
1. Swans - To Be Kind
2. Tim Hecker - Virgins
3. Perfume Genius - Put Your Back Into It
4. The Radio Dept. - Clinging to a Scheme
5. The Knife - Shaking the Habitual
6. Kanye - Yeezus
7. Vektor - Terminal Redux
8. Father John Misty - Pure Comedy
9. Death Grips - Jenny Death
10. The 1975 - A Brief History of .....
If I was being completely objective / making general recommendations, the best album of the year is either To Be Kind or Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly. The latter seems to be the top pick for any critic who isn’t infatuated with MBDTF (BTW Yeezus is better don’t @ me). A lot of people I know also seem to like either of Frank Ocean’s albums, although I’ve never seen the appeal.
Finally, I just wanted to add that Sleep Well Beast is infinitely better than anything The National put out this decade.
