How is it considered caring 'too much about high school sports' if it's simply the exact beginning point of inequality on the field? High school kids are at an incredible age of molding, knowledge, and athleticism. That's much different than combining a team of superstars and telling opponents it's 'making you better for it.' Coaches at these private schools face public school teams, cherry pick their top athletes after crushing their team, and promise college options for athletics. If that's a system and society you accept, well, honesty that poses bigger questions and simple differences in philosophies. Let me separate this idea of inequality on the field from the amazing young adults that private schools produce. They are ready for the academic challenges of college, and invested in their activities. What more could a selective college ask for? But, when a private school with 10 D1 athletes destroys a team 70-0, with coaches deliberately going over and making offers to the other school's top 2-3 kids after the game, that spells different meanings for 'getting your butt kicked and making your better for it.' Maybe that's not the national scene, but it's the reality here in NY/NJ.
But hey, thanks for engaging in a healthy debate. Have a great day.
