Another to have made the jump was Mike Esposito. He went from Mount Tabor(Winston-Salem) to High Point University.

Or like this .....Has a foreign coach ever made it straight to NCAA D1 head coach? If not...maybe the time has come?

As the title states, has any coach made the jump?
Unequivocally yes.
But maybe was your question was intended to be more definite?: "has any [HS] coach made the jump [to being an ncaa D1 coach] and had success?" And secondarily, was the ncaa D1 school competitive in its conference and region or not?
Did Rojo have ANY coaching experience before Cornell?

I own a company and coach a high school team on the side. I couldn’t operate the company that I own if I was a full tome college coach. Translation is a 50k pay cut. Factor in the recruiting bs that college coaches have to deal with and the fact that I enjoy working with high school athletes and I have found that it’s not worth it.
My HS XC team is faster than almost all of the local Division 2&3 schools in our area.
I am also coaching a few post collegiate sub elite runners.
I can’t imagine at least for me why I would ever want to switch whether or not that is even an option anyway.
Similar experience but different wrote:

Curious how you know this? Yes, you are correct. Do you know the high school?
