Why do non-athletic people get wiped out from doing nothing all week?
Why do non-athletic people get wiped out from doing nothing all week?

Why do hobby joggers spend hours training and working out every day when they aren’t getting paid to do it?
To live long and happy.

Because they work and drive all day instead of training for an hour or so and then watching Netflix and napping.
Because emotional stress is just as taxing and corroding to the body, if not more so, then physical activity.

There was that article about chess grand masters on here recently about how many calories they burn playing chess

Professional athletes don’t actually have a real job. They play for a living. That’s why
Yeah a real job is sitting at a computer. And talking by the water cooler to stay hydrated for all the exertion.

You obviously have not had a job nor are you a professional athlete.

Water cooler?
Ok boomer
What do you think athletes are doing? Running eight hours a day? What do you think they do when not running or strength training?
Rarely take a day off? Some athletes take a month off.
Ok echo boomer
"here the echo?"
My apologies
Because running makes you feel good and have great mental clarity.
Prior to being a consistent runner, I did no exercise at all.. just worked, then as mentioned above, would sit on the couch all weekend and watch movies... "recovering". Problem is, do that day after day and you get in a rut and become lazier. And lazier. Until you get out the door and get some exercise and clear your head, it just gets worse.
A good friend of mine went from being a couch potato, to a pretty good marathon runner, back to couch potato status. He was running 60 miles a week two years ago.. now he wakes up at 10am, takes a nap at 2pm till 4, then goes back to bed at 9pm. Like a cat or a dog in the summer.
On a micro level, sit at a computer all day at work.. you are braindead by the end of the day and just want to go home and, ta-da.. watch TV. Whereas if you are interacting and walking around all day, chances are you are more interest in going running after work.
Physical activity even occasional hard workouts are emotional mindful stress relieving. Physical activity helps cope with depression and mental stress.
My brother is 48yo and still lives with my parents and his life is going to work and coming home and playing video game.
He even forgets to eat unless mom feeds him. He doesn't get up on his days off until noon and has zero shame.
I don't know anyone who lays in bed all day after a week of work.
On the other hand, I don't know any athletes who put in 40 hours of training in a week.

as someone who hasn't been training for the last 6 months, i have way less energy than when I was running.
it's weird, I was exhausted training for marathons, but my body was more "awake" .
My body feels better now, but when you're not moving everyday, you're sleepier, more tired, and it's easier to get sore form every day stuff.
Running really hardens you. It's hard.
Training also takes no mental capacity. Look at Mo Farah.
