Check in write up, it's not head coach...
Averett University Athletics is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the Graduate Assistant Head Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Team.
Guys c'mon this a posting for The Graduate Assistant to the Head Cross County Coach..
Tennessee Tech has made their hire.
It is not! It says in the title HEAD COACH! and in the body it says responsible for ALL aspects of the program! According to this AD it is for a head coach and not sure where you read otherwise.

It literally says it in the posting...
"to serve as the Graduate Assistant Head Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Team"
Yes it literally says graduate assistant head coach. Your pint is? Head coach is head coach. Yep.

The point is GA positions were a way to get full time work out of a young assistant, under the guise of providing them with further education and a chance to learn under a head coach.
This school in Virginia want a full time employee to be self sufficient and run a program, but without pay or benefits. What a scam...but some one will do it.

There is pay. This comes in the form of graduate tuition and fees being paid, graduate housing with meal plan, and most likely a monthly graduate "stipend", which can range from $700-1200 depending on the university. Now, is it $5000-6000 a month. No. But it is a decent package worth maybe $20-30,000 for a young coach with most likely no experience, who will at some point need a Master's anyway if they hope to move up in the sport. Plus, you get the resume builder of saying you were a Head Coach. If I were a young, unmarried guy with no kids, I would jump on an opportunity like that if offered.
Why are all of these "different" people defending this garbage job?
I can understand that there would be some defense if someone is related to the program, but there is certainly not more than 1 person on this board that can be here defending this decision to underpay a coach.
This position is terrible. This is not a position from which you can build a resume in two years while getting your degree. Further, you will gain no proper mentorship.
If you take this position, do not expect a lot of phone calls on the other side.
UNCW make a hire yet?

Hahaha!!!!
baby bump
they posted for an assistant so the head must have been hired.
The most I have ever seen a University offer for a stipend is just shy of $500 a month. Please inform me what schools offer $700-$1200...
Most GA’s I’ve seen or spoken to, are on a 10 month deal (that can be renewed) paying 1k a month.
Wow, when I started coaching, I made under 2k a year as an assistant. Had 3 other part time jobs as well. Then I got a chance to coach at a mid major, made under 10k a year (even after having dozens walk-ons compete in the post season), also had 3 other jobs. Times have definitely changed for the better.
