US 3000m track record - Mary Slaney - 8:25.83
Gidey just split 8:30 during her last 3k of a hilly 15k race!! Yes, they were net downhill around 100 feet over the last 3k, but it is INSANE!

Is that the best female running performance of all time?
This is proof that the talent gap between men and women atleast in running is smaller than originally thought. Women just entered the game late and, if you track their time progression since they started competing widely in distance running, you'll find that the improvement curve for women's times is actually steeper than the men's time progression curve.
So Galen Rupp giving up in Chicago because Brigid Kosgei was hunting him down km by km could become a more regular event?

Haha! It`s better than Ayala*s track 10000m WR!!! This is of course not possible in a clean way. I just wait
until her 'biological passport' will tell she's a doper. Done by a runner with a former 30:21 best at 10 k two months back.???
I have almost same PB:s as Gidey at track , 8:20 for me and she 8:23 at 3000m and 14:20 at 5000m and she 14:23 and my best 10000 at 29:51 and she 30:21. How is it possible to run this fast for a woman over 15 k when nothing pointed to this time just a couple of months before??? There can only be one explanation……….I think?
Combination of four things: at 21 she will improve, better nutrition, training, and the shoes.

I don't care about what happens after the finish. I watched the last minute, and she is getting a sensational bounce from those shoes. It's known that people are getting differential benefits from the Vaporfly Next%s, so it's possible she is one of the ones getting largest benefits from the shoe.
I am open to the possibility of doping, but I never go there by performances alone. Fantastic run, even though Vaporfly enhanced.
First, two questions:
1. Do all top runners play by the same rules?
2. Do all top runners undergo the same drug tests?
If the answers to the above questions are both yes, Gidey is unlikely to have a significant pharmaceutical advantage over any other top runner. She was tested at the World Championships a month ago, just like all the other medalists. If the result in her case was a false negative, it's likely that other athletes are also getting false negatives. So no unfair advantage.
Gidey may or may not have access to shoes that are commercially unavailable. If so, that would give her an advantage over some of the other runners. However, how large is the size of this advantage? Consider three types of shoes:
1) Nike Vaporfly 4% (commercially available)
2) Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite - shoes worn by Kipchoge in Monza in 2017
3) Nike custom version of Vaporfly - shoes worn by Kipchoge in Vienna in 2019
Based on Kipchoge's performances at Vienna and Monza, it seems likely that the newest model is better than the Vaporfly Elite. However, he improved his time by less than 2 seconds per mile. So it is not apparent that there are great differences between these two types of shoes. If the Vaporfly 4% is similar in quality to the Zoom Vaporfly Elite, I would not expect Gidey to have an enormous advantage over other runners.
Yes, thankfully someone gets it. Whenever a huge talent sets a record we immediately see a bunch of throwaway doping accusations levelled at them in total isolation of the others also competing in the same race. - You cant have it both ways as many doping accusers frame it (all the East Africans are doping) and in the next breath single out Gidey as a “special” doper because she wins by over two minutes!
Watch Gidey move, her action, it is simply perfection - even more so than Ayana who was my previous go to reference re running form.
Sure- accuse her of doping if you like, but ask yourself if her performances are simply down to illegal means, then why does she have such consistency in her results? If they are all doping wouldn’t you expect each dog to have its day on the podium? - Maybe instead it is simply hard work combined with huge talent and motivation
If it helps you sad males who are hurt by the power of this lady's performance, think whatever you want. As Cenk Uygar would say: "Have at it hoss." Whatever helps you sleep better at night and feel better about your mediocre running talent relative to hers. Guess who is not coming out talking trash about her performance? Ritz, Rupp, Sage, Tegenkamp, Magness, Centro...not one of them are talking trash about her performance. Why not? Answer: Fast males are not insecure males.

To be fair, i think there was some sort of a drug experiment. They couldn't test it in a big race so they tried it in Nijmegen where the GSC camp is based. Throughout the race Jos Hermens was observing Gidey.
Obsviously, the new drug is ridiculously good, the best ever. Guess it's the same which helped Kipchoge to break 2 and Bekele to reborn from the ashes.
Pretty sad with these huge dutch doping armies

Are women getting more return from these shoes? Perhaps because they are lighter and have less power to begin with.
Finally an intelligent reply from someone. Everyone, if on something, are on the same thing. And there's no way NOP athletes would be without access to whatever the Ethiopians ALLEGEDLY use. So what explains why Hasay and Rowbury are not cranking out sub 29 10K's? It's obvious that Gidey is a significant talent.
Gidey's form is just perfection:
This is probably the best performance ever in the history of track and field (all events/all sexes included).
Yet, it does not even have a mention on the front not page of Letsrun
So obviously, nothing in mainstream media
This is really weird
Gidey running in 2017 and junior world cross:
There is however news about a HS girl going pro in the PV
She beat an 8:59’3000m steeplechaser by 28 in XC? Beast
Maybe because the BroJos know that Gidey is faster than they were in their prime... I think a lot of the accusations boil down to ignorance of how different and often harsher life is outside of the United States , as a regular part of culture there. Outside of this country, you have entire cultures whose lifestyles are much much more difficult and some might say. "backwards", than what we see in America. So we see "hard" women from countries like Ethiopia and Kenyan and suspect them of doping because relatively speaking, America is a "soft" nation with a softer lifestyle on average. So our perspective is that if a woman is "harder" than what we're used to seeing from an American lifestyle point of reference, she must therefore be doping. Remove a lot of the creature comforts we've been so accustomed to living in America, and suddenly you'll find that a 14:00 5k by a high school boy is nothing to brag about. We'll have a tougher point of reference and see life the way Ethiopians and Kenyans see it.

This is just preposterous. What about this is believable? There has to be some undetected drug fueling these East Africans. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even click on any article about any road race won by an East African, just the post thread. They are destroying the sport. Soon the money will run out and unfortunately that is probably for the best. Without the money involved the need to cheat will go down. East Africans maybe wouldn’t cheat just for a medal.
Just focus on youth, high school and NCAA results. Maybe the pros minus any distance race (which is already happening).
Yeah I'm sure some third world countries whose GDP as a whole is probably less than what Nike is worth is somehow able to get access to a magical formula that none of our powerful entities can acquire... :eyeroll:

Have you literally never read the news regarding these matters? There is virtually no drug-testing in Ethiopia. A magic formula isn't really needed. Good ol' fashioned EPO microdosing does the trick.
I don't "want" this woman to be doping, but Occam's razor needs to be applied here. This performance defies belief.
Most absurd performance of the year, and 2019 was full of 'em. This sport lacks any credibility whatsoever. We, as fans, are supposed to accept that it's now okay to ditch running shoes in favor of spring-loaded shoes. That it's okay for a certain class of people to dope with impunity. Walk on eggshells lest you offend the Italian colonists and drug-peddlers.
Cute lil rant. I love it. Tell us about your favorite politicians, CEOs, and landlords too. Keep that bootlicking streak alive.
I noticed you neglected to mention the Italian coaches and agents. Who's your fave??
That's the problem with European-descendants. You all expect everything to easily be compartmentalized into a logical bubble and anything outside of your logical bubble is therefore illegitimate. The rest of the world doesn't exactly adhere to or frankly care about the European logical bubble. Passion and emotion can push the boundaries of human performance well beyond the current logical bounds that people like yourself like to restrict us to. If A->B, and B->C, then A-->C...except when it doesn't. Gidey just killed your logic.
