Interesting read and glad to hear she has recovered from all this and no longer has anger. Such a sad/shocking story.
I was coached by DST for a brief time as a post collegiate athlete. I was attracted to Guelph/Speed River as the 'running center of Canada' and had ambitions to reach the next level as there were many Olympians training under him. I never would have guessed this about Dave, the news is quite shocking to me. I respected him and thought he had many positive coaching qualities, it is mind boggling to me that such a person like him would do something like this.
Dave had some good qualities as a coach, but unfortunately also some pride issues. This I was able to pick up on during my brief stint training with speed river. When pride is left unchecked it -- along with desires of the flesh -- can lead to terrible sins. In his case he was somehow able to rationalize his behavior and thought he could use his position of power to get away with it. Unfortunately it worked.., for a very long time.
The natural response is to have anger at Dave and all that happened, but as a Christian I think the appropriate response is prayer. Prayer of course for Megan as she continues to cope and all the others that were victims of abuse by Dave. Prayer also for all those coached by him who trusted him and were deceived by him and coming to terms with that guilt. Especially prayer for his wife and daughters... I can't even imagine... But I'm also praying for DST himself, that he may have a repentant heart.
