There have been rumours going around about DST for years. As long as I've been involved with track.
I tread carefully, and want to make clear that I do not know of any clear sexual misconduct, I heard one story of an allegation of a former athlete that went nowhere but this was many years ago. But frankly, I could see him being under pressure without any sexual misconduct element.
Now more concretely, I can say that amongst his athletes past and present, DST is a very polemic figure. Lots of love/hate, however the people who dislike him often try keep it downlow due to the clout he has with AC and that he so often is a team coach for major champs. Not to mention the challenges that come with publicly attacking a popular figure. But I'd confidently say that there are multiple world champ level athletes who left Speed River, think he is a massive jerk, and where I think "hate" might be the only way to describe their feelings. There was also at least one athlete who still ran with Speed River but at points was coached externally due to problems in the athlete relationship.
Lots of the chat is similar to that of accusations about Alberto minus the doping stuff. Chat of being callous about weight, injuries, athletes losing periods, training intensity. Given how the news in Canada is filled with talk of coaching abuse of various types at the NHL level, and that we just had Salazar go down in flames, I could see stories getting out and AC/Guelph feeling they have to do something.
Anyway, it will be an interesting story to follow.
