Salazar sounds like some cowardly passive/aggressive middle manager. Too timid to fire someone so, he makes their work life a petty living hell so that they will quit.

For all the detractors there are many more they liked him.
And Amy did have a weight problem as the articles details. The article even shows she ran her fastest times weighing less.
I liked the story as it shows when you lose weight, you run better.

Tolerated with the mild fascination befitting a phenom, I haven't heard from old GBTC folks that they loved having him around.
just read an old interview where bill rogers called him "mr. persistent" - not the most pleasant or flattering nicknames lol
the only thing i love about Al Sal is that he was able to get athletes to win Olympic medals. I don't think anyone thinks he's a great dude.
I've never cared if he was a nice guy. I assume all celebrities and great athletes coaches aren't worth looking up to.
Assumed he was a pr*ck based on interviews and meeting him once.
i don't like any athlete or celeb aside from their physical talents. They are just as lousy people as everyone else.

I remember reading about him fairly early in his Oregon career when Rudy Chapa was considered the top prospect. He had the nickname on the team as The Mule because he was so stubborn in workouts, never gave up. Good attributes to become a top runner. But seems like he needed a lot of work on people skills to develop the best emotional environment for the NOP athletes.

None of his antics, save the illegal PED usage, is even remotely relevant.
His job was to have athletes compete at the highest levels. He performed spectacularly in that respect. NOP had massive successes in Rupp, Centro, Farah, Hassan, Klosterhalfen, Murphy, Brazier, Hasay, Rowbury, and Kejelcha.
There were also a full host of athletes who had great performances with the group, including Engels, Ritz, Levins, Jenkins, Moser, and even the Gouchers.
Have you even seen Football and Basketball coaches with their athletes? They're screaming at them and berating them not just in private or in front of their teammates, but in PUBLIC and in many cases, on NATIONAL BROADCASTS. Salazar's "abuse" is incredibly tame as far as the world of sports is concerned. The only difference is that he happens to have a host of irrationally sensitive athletes.

I don't recall ever seeing the best in those sports consistently doing that. It's usually the crappy ones doing that because they feel so desperate for positive results in terms of score to justify keeping their job, their stature, their confidence and manhood.
If only it wasn’t for the years of doping allegations, l-carnitine injections, androgel experiments, suspicious pills hidden in books and more..

Even if this were true, a simple majority is nothing to brag about when you are talking about the ratio of friends to employees filing public grievances.
We're going to the NY Times about some reality TV type stuff? What is this "Keeping up with the NOP's"?
Every sports coach gets into their athletes about something and isn't completely appropriate about it. Basketball, football, volleyball, baseball, especially soccer, etc. Not only that, but this is a workplace at the professional level. Who goes to the NY Times about workplace drama. Drama happens at every workplace and many times involves the boss, either directly or indirectly. You're telling me there hasn't been conflict in BTC between group members or a group member and the coach? I know for a fact there has been. Some people should really keep things to themselves in some cases.

Wow Alberto really thought of everything. The man with the master plan.
Unless he killed the dog in the first place to try to improve Amy's times, I don't see any issue here.
In this case, the "manager" in the "workplace" in this scenario has been the subject of headline news, particularly of late and ongoing for much of a decade over his regard for ethics and treatment of "employees." Don't feign ignorance… though I'm not convinced you're actually feigning.

Basically you don’t get to be an @$$hole and and banned cheater. If he wasn’t a cheat none of his social issues would have come to light.

True ... she told me the same thing in the summer of 2008. She also said she carried it with her for motivation but said NOP gave her great opportunity and motivation. She also said that AlSal told her not to bring her personal stuff to practice.

Not taking sides here, but Amy comes across as someone you wouldn't want around a training group.

Tom Derderian had a good write up about this in the New England Runner. Also tells of a running encounter on Pre's Trail with Alberto looking like a freak wearing his scuba apparatus.

I would rather watch 2-hours of Mo Farah Mobot victory compilations than read that.
All this bravery has me hoping Pete Julian’s stable dominates forever. Apparently everyone in this sport is a fvcking toddler and narc... but only after their ships have sailed.
