After recent talks within the GSC and with his coach, Bekele has a clearer vision now about his 2020 season and his last running ambitions before retiring on a high in fall 2020 or early 2021 to pursue his business career!
Dubai Marathon 2020 - Unlikely
- Probably the fastest course in the world and would give him a chance to have another try at the WR in case of failure. However, it must be to quick of a turnaround from Berlin 2019 and given his bad luck in Dubai, it's unlikely he'll begin his season there.
RAK Half - Possible
-Kenenisa wants to have a last try at running a proper half, and with ideal conditions, they believe he could run 57:40-57:50. Ras offers those conditions and would be a great race for Kenenisa.
London Marathon - Very probable
- Highly lucrative with a huge appearance fee. Stacked fields and a chance to take on Eliud Kipchoge. It's almost certain Bekele will be there.
Tokyo Olympics - Possible
- Of course Bekele would love another Olympic gold, however it depends on when and where he wants to have a last shot at the WR.
Berlin Marathon - Probable
- It's likely Berlin will once again be chosen as the venue for his last WR attempt, therefore he would have to skip the Olympics and dodge Kipchoge.
Dubai Marathon 2021 - Unlikely
- If Bekele decides to do the Olympic marathon, he'll have to postpone his WR bid for a few more months until Dubai 2021. However, give his poor history in Dubai and father time it's unlikely this will be the decision.
Proposed 2020 seasons
------------------------------
1. +- RAK Half + London Marathon + Berlin Marathon
2. +- RAK Half + London Marathon - Tokyo Olympics - Dubai Marathon 2021
3. Dubai Marathon 2020 +- London Marathon + Tokyo Olympics
4. Dubai Marathon 2020 + Berlin Marathon
A final decision will be taken in the next 3-4 weeks!
Feel free to discuss and say which of those would suit Kenenisa the best!

Obviously as a fan, #2 is the dream with two likely matchups with Kipchoge including an unpaced one. That being said #1 is pretty damn good and there can be no complaints if both guys race in London and KB attempts to secure two World Records.

Bekele vs Kipchoge in Boston
MAKE IT HAPPEN
The greatest race. The greatest crowd. The greatest course. The highest prize money. -
I have the feeling that it will be Berlin 2019 or Tokyo 2019.
Only one race like this year. Olympic gold or world record. -
Absolutely. He will run at the Olympics only if he gets the WR before. And given it's almost impossible to happen in London he has to enter Dubai. Bekele needs the WR more than another Olympic gold and given the heat and lack of money i highly doubt it..
-
I know he wants the WR but I'd love to see him in the Olympics in a non-paced strategic race for once...The last i recall was the 2013 great north run which was fantastic!

He needs to just focus on the WR in Berlin and hope for good weather. Losing to Kipchoge at the height Kipchoge's fame would be a slight blow to Bekele's legacy and a waste of time.
-
Given his build-up for Berlin this year were good but far from ideal, i believe if Kenenisa gets another build-up full of motivation and with no injuries, he breaks the WR, without problems.
-
There is a desire to dodge kipchoge at the Olympics no doubt, but the fact is he will never have a chance at olympic gold in the marathon ever again after 2020.
The half WR is probably not that important to him, nor does it bode well for a full time marathoner. Different training.
Dubai is a 4 month turnaround from Berlin, which is not bad.
Berlin conflicts with the Olympics so it's one or the other.
My guess: Dubai + Olympic marathon -

"He breaks the WR without problems".
Seriously? Are you even a runner? -
London 2020
Berlin 2020
Retires
He had the gold medals. He wants the marathon world record. -
I hope he does #1 and I hope Eliud does Berlin as well (instead of the Olympics). This is the matchup I want to see in marathoning: Eliud and Bekele going for the WR in Berlin.

Oh, I thought this was going to be about Bekele's proposed 2020 doping regimen. I must be on a wrong thread.

What a sad, miserable life you must lead. Instead of celebrating one of the all-time greats regaining form, you pollute this thread with your negativity. -

Hahaha. What is this? You sound like sad mofo idolizing a nothing, nobody doper. Nobody cares about him. Not me nor dozens of my running friends. You're polluting this thread, this site, and this world with your idolization of ridiculous dopers. This clown should be locked up not continue to run and crap all over ethics and sportsmanship. -

You misspelled New York 3x. -
Next year is going to be epic as fukk. I wish he continues past 2020. I want to see him literally destroy fields for years to come. Berlin this year was just a warm up. He is going to get the WR next year and he can get gold in Tokyo.

Yeah. He's probably fully recovered like, weeks ago. So plenty of time to build for Dubai. And it's not like he put in six months of high mileage leading into Berlin either, so chances are he wasn't burned out going in.
Plus Dubai is usually stacked with Ethiopians, which will work in his favor. Being totally selfish, Dubai would be excellent, and Berlin if he needs another try at it. Finally beating Kipchoge heads up (either in London or the Olympics) would be excellent, and I believe has the speed to do it, but not sure if he has the consistency.
I would like to see Kipchoge properly challenged at some point, when he's still at his peak. As in, headed into the last mile, side by side on a fast 2:02ish type pace in London or Berlin etc. Guye Adola is the only one so far to come close to that, IIRC.
