don't you think it's a little strange that the only people really defending nop is alberto (the founder and head), pete julian (the heir apparent), and treasure (who even tried to push off some liability in the si interview)? if you're going to mention "the usual suspects" like magness and goucher when they criticize the nop, shouldn't you also note that the only nop defenders willing to go public are alberto and his assistants?
tldr: the only person really defending the oregon project is alberto himself (julian suddenly sounds very apologetic in his si interview), while there's quite literally a chorus of former athletes and associates who are all saying the same thing. i guess i'm just trying to say that this sentiment that magness and goucher's words somehow mean less because they're longtime critics is silly.
Solid points. I do note that others have defended the NOP recently (Hasay described him as a father figure; Hasan complimentary). I'm not defending Salazar, as I agree that Julian sounds apologetic and acknowledges mistakes. I do think that wading into this issue in general is a powder keg/potential PR disaster for an athlete even if you did have a slightly different take (or at least a less harsh take) on the issue.
I do have a different view on Magness and Goucher and give the lense they look through less weight. Goucher inserts herself into every situation, paints herself as a trailblazer or martyr on every issue, and I just don't trust her objectivity on anything NOP. That being said, in conjunction with a train of others that I think are more objective, I'm not dismissing their comments . It is obvious there is/was an issue and inappropriate comments/behavior existed.
