Here we go again with the "Kara Goucher Show". Is she now going to claim abuse? I'm sorry, but weight has ALWAYS been an issue among female distance runners.....and always will. I do agree that there is a right and wrong way to address this between athlete and coach. No athlete should be shamed, embarrassed, or abused in any way. That being said if an athlete was made to feel uncomfortable and or disrespected he or she needs to confront the coach directly. If this does not solve the issue and the coach shows little or no regard then the athlete needs to make the decision as to whether they continue to stay with the club.
Also, let's not forget that Mary did ask to come back to the club which seems confusing due to the extreme allegations she's made. Did she consult with her parents? Friends? High School coach? Her sudden enlightenment and realization of the "Abuse" come into question. I stated on an earlier post that this seems to be a clear case of an athlete, her parents, and coach making an ill-advised decision to move across the country clearly motivated by a lucrative shoe contract and ambition of being "the best female runner in the world", and when this didn't work out as planned and she was not accepted back into the club or was snubbed feelings were hurt and "Payback" was in order.
I'm smelling a Class Action lawsuit against Nike. When you're winning and making money life is GOOD!!!. When you're losing and not making money life SUCKS!!!. Such is the life of a professional athlete.
Ken Goe is a essentially a Salazar Publicist with this story. It's his responsibility to reach out to people on the other side of this, not tell them to "step up." That's Journalism 101 knowledge right there. He also uses language that downplays Mary's issues. Instead of saying "she sufferd an injury and a disrupted menstrual cycle", he should list the specifics. If Mary says she didn't get a period for x amount of time, he should quote that or at least be specific. Same with the injury, be specific with the injury. If it's a broken bone, state that.
he did the same thing when he attacked vern gambetta a couple years ago for saying that NOP engaged in "voodoo science." of course, that's exactly what salazar did.

Goe is a Nike apologist. What he did with that story wasn't journalism. It's what is wrong with journalism. He basically just printed Nike's spin on what Mary Cain went through without providing quotes from the dozens of people who have supported her statements. That seems irresponsible. It makes it appear like there are two sides to this. It aids in changing the narrative of this whole situation. Alberto and Nike should have apologized and said that they will do everything they can to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen again and detail what that looks like. Instead, a PR team got paid to spin things. Goe printed that trash. He could of easily added in some quotes to show people supporting what Mary raised. He chose not to. I think that's messed up.
Also, there are some good conversations happening about LRC's role in all of this. I hope the Brojos are looking at that internally.

I am addressing a Ken Goe’s body of work as a journalist. Ken has been a sycophant in relation to Alberto as if Nike buttered his bread. He is NOT taken seriously as a journalist by intelligent people and if you cannot recognize that Rojo, then that says a lot about you. Nobody with intelligence is “taking sides.” I certainly am not, as I can just as easily disparage Kara with justification.
