Who were some of his training partners in college? Any inside info on this?

Jim’s primary training group consisted of Justin Tyner, Jon Rock & Jeremy Drenckhahn. Matt Williams and Sean Houseworth also trained with Walmsley as collegians and post-collegians.

Any info on what some of these other guys have been up to?
Interesting topic. It's not too often that we hear of our favorite athletes' histories. Jim's got an awesome story for sure.
Matt Williams is from Colorado Springs. He ran in the US Champs steeplechase, US Olympic Trials marathon and sub 1:04 half-marathon. Currently serving in the US Air Force in the middle east.
Justin Tyner retired from running after the Olympic Trials steeplechase, now a pilot in the US Air Force.

About 3 years ago when Jim burst onto the ultra scene, I was unsure of how he was being marketed, didn't really know much about him and didn't know if he was a splash in the pan type, but I am huge fan these days. He stays quiet, and really is a special talent.
I am looking forward to what he strings together for the Trials. Anything sub 2:16 will be a solid showing. He has claimed he believes he can run 2:12ish, maybe he does. He isn't a road runner so it'll be awesome to see what happens.
He was on a solid team in college. Maybe he’ll get a chance to tell us about that experience in an interview or something.

They had a unique cast to be sure, and their training was quite superb in Colorado Springs. We were always to nervous to race against those altitude freaks.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see Walmsley post a time between 2:11 and 2:15. Given the nature of the OT course, we're probably looking at a time closer to 2:15.
I wonder if there are any documentaries in the works right now. Any word?
Is Walmsley planning to taper before the Trials?

I assumed the LetsRun community would have something to say on this.

I heard he's going to train through the Trials, but I certainly hope not. I think it would be cool to see how his training translates directly to the roads in the marathon.
He ran 15 miles total last week. Is that tapering?

I thought the trails are next year.
https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a25770488/2020-olympic-marathon-trials-field/He's tapering for the world mountain championship in Argentina.
I still doubt he will run trials since there is no point in him doing so.

There's no point in him doing so? How about proving the translatability of ultra running to marathoning? How about proving to himself what he's capable of running? How about competing with the best long-distance runners in the United States?
Really?
Walmsley is all over the place.
I thought he was preparing for the trails?

I thought so too. What gives?
It would be a great article to interview his college teammates. I wonder if they had an inkling they were training with a guy who would soon be the world ‘s greatest endurance athlete.
As for the OTs I think the hills will be the difference . Definitely see him in the top 3,
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
