Go to rehab and never drink again.
Tell the cops to quit booze shaming you.
Hopefully you'll be forcibly prevented from getting behind the wheel for a long, long, time.
See if you can double your score.
The machines are very inaccurate, not calibrated properly, not tested well, not implemented correctly. But seriously, you need help. Go into a rehab program, get away from alcohol and friends you drink with. You could easily have killed others or yourself.
Is there any special penalty for blowing that high in your state? Might be worth getting a lawyer to knock those penalties down.
Assuming the charges are going to stick, you may want to get yourself into AA to demonstrate a willingness to reform before you are ordered to by the court.
I had one many, many years ago and I just took a court appointed lawyer because the fines were less than a lawyer would cost me and I had no reason to believe a lawyer would get me out of it. From what I had seen back then, the lawyers could get the charge lessened to a lower level dui which had less penalties, but still ended up on your record and hit the insurance, etc., so I didn’t see much point in fighting it.
See if it makes sense to fight it in your case. Due to the high bac, it might be. Do you have any reason to believe the test was inaccurate?
Good luck.
Blow harder next time!
I have no reason to believe the breathalyzer was faulty. I stopped drinking around 2 and was pulled over around 5:30. My state comes down harder on anything over .2. Several lawyer friends have told me I'm basically screwed no matter what I do. The cop actually pulled me over for a burnt-out tail light and then smelled the alcohol on my breath.

You must drink to near 0.30 on a regular basis if you were able to drive, talk and walk. Many people cannot drink to that level. Many people would pass out at a level far lower than 0.28 By your comments, you do not seem to think 0.28 is inaccurate. Maybe getting caught like this was for the best. You could have killed someone.
He seems rather flippant about the whole thing.
As a frame of reference, drunk on duty in the Army is .05. In most states .08 is DUI....you were 3.5x that.

Exactly. One of the most selfish and stupid things a person can do is get behind the wheel of a metal death trap drunk. Could have killed an innocent person.

In Washington, a 1st DUI over 0.15 and you're looking at 2 years
As someone whose cousin was killed by a drunk on his 4th offense, please get help. Rehab should be your first stop. Let this be the first and last DUI of your life.
Admit that you are an alcoholic.
In order to get to a .28, your tolerance has to be quite high and to actually be able to drive at .28 means you have been doing this for a very long time. Be honest with yourself and get some help. And this is coming from someone with experience. I got busted at .23. I must have had about 6-8 shots of tequila and God only knows how many beers that night. I barely felt it but forgot to turn on my headlights and was stopped. Damn near ruined my life and I had to face the fact that I had a problem. I wasn't falling down drunk, I worked, and did everything I was supposed to do. I didn't think I had a problem, but I did. Please believe me when I tell you that if you really blew a .28, you drink way too much and need to stop.
