Hanging out with the world's best 5000m group as they enjoy a sumptuous-looking meal at Edris' home in Addis Ababa. Barega, Telahun Bekele and others make an appearance. I really think one of these guys will smash the 5000m record.

Apparently you do not follow the sport. The 5000m record is not in any danger in the next few years.
I'm predicting a resurgence of non-DL meets.
I don't think any of them will get the 5 000 m record.
Bekele broke the 5000m record before he turned 22. They are younger than he was (except Edrisà, but are already much more experienced on the track and have taken part in bigger races. Bekele was green on the track.
They have the drive and the objective to go for the record (Barega, Kejelcha, and maybe T.Bekele or Edris) but don't think that they have the capacity. It will be interesting to follow.
Thanks for the vid. I love this

Barega's 12:43 was pretty fast. I'm a fan and think he has what it takes. Edris was a beast at the worlds. Second favourite performance after Tim Cheruiyot in the 1500m.

Sure, it was fast and a great race BUT...how often will he have a pacer for 4,800m?
Not saying he can’t break record but that’s about perfect conditions he can hope for

It was very fast but I doubt he will have a world class competitor as a rabbit for so long another time. And it still more than 6 seconds not good enough to beat the world record. Barega is young, but already very experienced.
Edris is a beast, his last km is unreal in a 5k race, but I don't see him going for the records, he is more a championship racer.
Anyway, it's exciting to see at least one competitor (Barega) having the goal stated to beat a world record. I still beleive Bekele record is safe but it has to be targeted.

Good point about the pacing.
That was a really tasty looking spread from 1-2 minutes. Ethiopian food is very good!
Kejelcha would likely be the key to an assault on the record, because he was the guy who could bring them even that close after a not great first 2k. Would Kejelcha be willing to do that again, though? I don't know how the transition from Salazar is going to be for him, but next year, he might be healthier than he was this summer, and 3:47 suggested he was going to have a huge year. If he thinks he can get that record and pushes toward it, Barega in the form of that 12:43 race was capable of it. Barega had plenty left at the end, you will remember.

I know nothing about Ethiopian athletes' lives off the track, but I recall something about no love lost between Kejelcha and the other Ethiopian 5/10k guys. Even Tim Hutchings or Steve Cram (I can't remember who) sort of alluded to it. Something about him being out of the fold since NOP move.
