You could have been writing about Lance Armstrong instead of Alberto. They are both sociopaths but maybe you like that. To each their own.

My heart goes out to Mary, and to plenty of other NOP athletes Al experimented on and pushed beyond their comfort levels of what seems acceptable. From my distant perch, he seems like a classic bully who really doesn't care got the whole wellbeing of his athletes. But that's the agreement he made with himself and, to some extent, athletes signed onto when joining his program.
Left largely unexplored up until now, and perhaps forever, is the odd relationship and effect he's had on Galen's life. Back in the day, our best runners were strong independent types (Rodgers, Pre, Shorter, Jones, etc), but to me Galen has been robbed of his chance at self-actualization since he was a teen. I've rooted for him, but he comes across as the product of a big corporate science experiment and, from my distant perch, it has been quite sad.
To me, the high point will be watching his breakthrough at Prague. He seemed far enough away from it all to let a bit more of his true self out than usual. Would be nice if he had that freedom all the time.
Will we ever get a fuller picture of what personal costs he's paid for his path? Maybe not. But one can hope

Using his own sons as lab rats? Expressway to hell.
Agree with the above, he used his son's as lab rats, what kind of person would do that?
Case closed on him, he is a bad person.
Then there is Cain, she was manipulated by her parents, remember when she was a frosh in HS? She split 2:03 in the 4 x 8 at the HS nationals, anchored her team to the win, then came back and finished 6th in the mile. I was there, such an impressive relay split.
But, her parents were not happy with the 6th place finish in the mile. The next school year her parents told the coach that she was not going to run relays because it would hurt her individual races. She became an outcast at school, few friends etc., had the private coach and went her way eventually landing with Alberto.
Her parents have been driving this behind the scenes all along, they are as much at fault as Alberto, trying to ride their talented little daughter for all she's worth. Mary has been the pawn in all this, Shame on them.

It is of course possible.
Some suggestions to figure out how possible this is: Keeping checking outside to see if any pigs fly by your window. Or, if you have access to current information about Hell (I do not, but you might), see if it is has frozen over. Finally, if when you go out into the world today, take note about whether or not whatever formerly was described as 'up' seems now to be 'down'.
If any of those phenomena occur, then the odds of Mr. Salazar telling the truth may be greater than I thought.
I believe Mary Cain (and Amy Y-B) BUT
about 8 or so years ago a woman where I worked accused me of "bothering her and making her uncomfortable".
Not harassment in the legal sense but things like I wouldn't leave her alone, I would always show up where she was in the building, I would always go to her office (about 5 people in the office), things like that.
I was kind of perplexed because, actually, it was HER doing all of that to me.
But, what can I do? Everyone always believes the woman. Right?
Well- other women where I work went to management in my defense. Hmmmm, I was right!!
Turns out- her HUSBAND was jealous of me (ummm, I guess she accidentally said my name once- lol).
He FORCED her to make those accusations. She came clean, left her husband and relocated.
Someone is lying in this situation.
Alberto telling the truth haha good one, it'd be great to see him get fired at some point and be outed by the entire running community for the rest of his life but I doubt Nike has the sack for it
No! Not possible . Think of it , four years banned !
I'm sure that some things have been exaggerated, however, given the totality of the circumstances, I believe it can be accurately stated that Salazar has been a disgrace to the sport, with Nike supporting him. To believe that all of these people have conspired to fabricate allegations against Salazar, coupled by the findings of an intensive investigation, leaves little doubt of Salazar's wrongdoing.
- WADA Apppeal: no doubt, Coach Sal's harsh sentence to be reduced to the basic misdemeanors that they are. Essentially, driving 10 mph over-the-speed-limit on a highway w/no cars. Big Deal!
- Mary Cain: so we're supposed to believe the testimony/attributions of one in a mental state that experienced numerous suicide ideations? Who's to say she's of sound mental health now? In my mind appropriate action was taken:
OUTCOME: Like Galen, she was SUCCESSFUL under Coach Sal/Henwoods tutelage in HS.
NEXT STEP: She proved UNSUCCESSFUL in Portland.
OUTCOME: She returned home and to her previous NOP "Proxy" Coach an continued to be UNSUCCESSFUL.
NEXT STEP: Mary has her "Me Too!" moment & attributes both UNSUCCESSFUL outcomes to Coach Salazaar.
- Galen Rupp Compassion?: For what?
Alberto is not telling the truth. In the last 24 hours, the list of people corroborating Mary's account, even with first hand accounts of his yelling at her about her weight, is getting pretty long.
In your situation then, there was ONE person accusing you of bad behavior and everyone else who had anything to say about the situation came to your defense? That how this reads. In Salazar's case you couldn't fit all the people accusing him of various things into a mini van. And you have the conclusions from the WADA investigation. It's much different than your situation..
the truth is somewhere in the middle, as it almost always is. He is being villified beyond what is reasonable. This is professional sports.
i think what is going to come out of this in the end is that people will realize that running,at the highest level, is not a healthy sport. But people will continue to make unhealthy choices in order to be the best.
Im sure it doesn't compare with what nfl players put into their bodies in order to get out on to the field every Sunday, and how their coaches talk to them. Why the different reactions?
Compared with the NFL, almost any sport (except boxing/mma) looks better for human health. And even if one acknowledges the obvious -- to compete at the highest level, one has to push the body very hard -- that doesn't justify Salazar's methods.

1 & 2 the Goucher. Both with axes to grind
3. Cam Levine. NOP washout and liberal sycophant
4. Amy YB. Another washout who also had trouble with hitting target weights
That’s not a very long list
Shalane has chimed in compassionately but without direct knowledge
Like it or not, weight is generally a significant factor in elite athlete performance. A coach has to be able and willing to have that conversation with athletes. The manner of how those conversations happened will vary in the retelling.
This is simply a relationship gone bad, which is being waged by one side in the press. Prima facie, there looks to be shortcomings on both sides but based on mainstream thinking Alberto is getting the short end of the stick here.
A lot of parallels with the kavanaugh situation.
That's an interesting post.
Did not know that--was she bullied in HS? I empathize with her, esp. if her parents were pushing her and the kids wouldn't understand.
I’m sorry but if you’re trying to train someone to be the fastest person on the face of the earth in this day the actions you take inherently are going to be unacceptable to some if not most of the broader population and there’s good chance you wreck a few people’s lives along the way.

As much as Trump is a stable genius.
For people genuinely interested in this type of situation, I highly recommend they watch the film 'Whiplash'. Very highly regarded, and leaves you with some interesting thoughts about success and teacher vs student.

- Truth!
- Nobody had a problem w/Julian Edelman last year at the Super Bowl.
- The maturity of these other NOP athletes is disappointing.
