There’s a first for everything, but this probably isn’t it.

probably means it's possible, but if he is and there's a conspiracy thing going on, look out everybody!!!!!!
As a good Catholic he always tells the truth.

Alberto could be telling the truth and it still could be an abusive relationship. Alberto could not have realized the harm he was doing when he told her to lose weight. He could have told Mary Cain and Galen Rupp in the same stern tone of voice that they need to lose weight and Mary could see at as him yelling at her while Galen could see it as a good kick in the butt.
Chalk it up to Alberto growing up at a time when people's feelings were not destroyed by a breeze.
The guy is a first class a$$ hole. Everyone knew this long before any story was published.

I think many of the stories were exaggerated to a crazy level. I truly think people have blown his personality out of proportions. I never heard any stories of him being an a$$hole to anyone. Kara may be telling half truths because she was let go.

^- This.
Two people can experience the same situation and take it very differently
Also Mary Cain is clearly not credible as she selectively discloses information.

Methinks she was coached by K. Groucher after leaving Salazar

Great points mate!

Exactly.
Sad to see Mary milking the 'helpless victim' angle. She signed up for NOP because she wanted to be the best. Being the best in track isn't living a happy, comfortable life with the people around you all trying to build up your self-esteem.
the real problem is that sal and cain are telling the truth,
that is they have it in their own brains.
we live in different worlds.
when there is overlap, we get along.
sal has his own definitions of fair play, and cain has hers.
the same thing happens in divorce, family, friend and relationships.
to understand and appreciate another's perspective, that would make the world a better place. especially for you.

Could be, in part. Specifically, Salazar wrote:
"To be clear, I never encouraged her, or worse yet, shamed her, to maintain an unhealthy weight."
So he might have shamed into 114 lbs, thinking it was healthy.
Having read Alberto's book, he clearly admits that he is monomaniac and has a certain Captain Ahab approach to running. While this may produce fast times, he probably is not the best for young runners for social development and it appears that sending a young, smart woman across the country to a mediocre university to run her butt off (not for the school) was a bad idea. I wonder how many times Mary asked herself, "What the hell am I doing here?"
It's a strange new world we live in. My college coach was fairly brash and somewhat hard on us, but we all understood that he was our teacher and not merely hired to win but to shape minds and character. This was the quid pro quo back then and it was easy to accept as equal amounts harshness and care were involved. Young people aren't aware of this trade-off today as they are told they are alreadfy all grown up! To be fair to Al, helping someone grow up is not in his job description. And only his family will know, but he doesn't strike me as the nurturing type.
Al probably is telling the truth as he sees it.

Chalk it up to Alberto simply not growing up.

He's innocent, I can feel it.
Then there are dozens of other examples of him being a terrible excuse for a human being.

Alberto Salazar is a special case. Some points.
1. Al Sal is an introvert. This is an important point, because introverts often are misunderstood and do not project positive vibes around all and sundry, but just to their closest circle of friends and family.
2. Al Sal got results. Do you think people like Steve Jobs were popular with anyone and everyone? Of course not, and Jobs made more foes than friends during his short lifetime, Same with Al Sal. A close circle of friends, few in number, and many others who were either indifferent to him, or actually somewhat hostile.
3. Al Sal believes he did nothing wrong, and from his perspective everything he did was above board. He may not see the significance that some of the routes he took were unethical and borderline illegal, without actually being so.
The vilification of Alberto Salazar is way over the top. In most other sports - Al may have been hailed as an iconoclast, an innovator, a creative genius - but in running - Al Salazar has had his name sullied by these allegations. One genuinely feels sorry for the man.
In Alberto's biography, there was a passage about how painful Al felt when he had to serve and greet customers in his restaurant in Eugene. It did not come naturally to him. He is not the kind of person to go up to anyone and initiate a conversation and form an instant rapport. Alberto is who he is. He was always diffident and wary of others. At the U of O, he had few friends, but those who were friends spoke about his loyalty and honesty (see references in Al Sal's biography).
Those closest to Al, and yes - he still has many allies - vouch that the man has a very warm and loyal side. Look at the way Rupp idolizes his "second father" (Alberto Salazar).
This has been one of the saddest episodes in the history of track and field, and one really feels that Alberto has been dragged to a downward level that he does not deserve or merit.
