Sifan Hassan: 5 foot 7 and 108 pounds
Just saying. Don’t look for “healthy” weight in a middle distance world champion.

Koko: 5 foot 9 and 106 pounds
If you look deeper down the field, you will see Eilish Mccolgan at 5 foot 9 and 117 pounds

And if you look even deeper, you will see Karen Smitty from Parkview high schoool at 5'4" and 193 pounds. She's just trying to stay healthy, too. Maybe lose a few pounds before softball season and make some friends.
When is the last time that a woman won the 1500 or 5000 at >120 pounds?

There was also a podcast a year or two back with Centro where he stated the biggest compliment he could receive from a girl is the girl asking him if he is anorexic while hugging him and telling him he needs to eat. He said that is how he knows he is in shape. Pretty sad, IMO.
Nothing new. Lasse Viren -- who set WRs in the 2-mile, 5,000, and 10,000 and won the 5/10 double in back-to-back Olympics -- said he knew he was fit when he looked like a plucked chicken.
Besides, 40% of Americans are clinically obese, and another 32% are overweight, so they have a pretty distorted view of what it means to look healthy.
There I go "fat shaming" again.
I am a big believer that if you are putting in the work your body will find a happy healthy weight. That could be different between people, due to their body structure. If a female is missing periods, then something is wrong.

Lol
You truly believe that Koko, Hassan, McColgan... have their periods...

My best running weight was 53.5kg, @1.67m
That is what??? 118lb and 5'6" ?
Wasn't trying to attract chicks with my pecs, but wasn't underweight.
We thank you so much, I am Sam, for telling us about yourself. It is so important in this discussion.
Please tell us --- how long did you lose your period?
And now Kara Goucher is jumping in. Not a word about any of this stuff for six years now she is claiming the same stuff as Cain. Sorry Kara, not credible. Cain said AS yelled at her one time in two years for her weight. Does not sound abusive. It comes down to a16 year old trying to train with adults. I don't see 300 high school lineman skipping college and joining the nfl. Maybe there needs to be a rule. If as did not know how to coach women why has he had so much success with them?
I'm, underweight is underweight. Being a runner doesn't factor into the equation

And many distance runners are still at an unhealthy body fat % due to being skinny fat.
My friends Belgin Malanois is faster than his Border Collie and he outweighs her by 40 lbs.....sooooo...... Apples to oranges? Exactly....

So let's emotionally abuse an underage girl so she can run faster. That is perspective. (Eye roll).

Which Olympics were you in?

Back in the day when a fellow runner told you you looked terrible you took it as a compliment, i.e. gaunt, pale, thin, etc showed you'd done the work and were fit.
Too many snowflakes these days with first world problems.
On some level I take your point but Cain was a 16 or 17 year old girl when she teamed up with Salazar.
Missing your period for three years and five stress fractures suggests that this issue is a little more than snow flaking. I’d bet if it was your daughter you’d view it differently.

I mean Lauren Fleshman says she competed her best anywhere between 120-128 and she is only one inch taller than Mary Cain and she was pretty successful as a 5K runner...
So, has anyone looked at the height to weight ratios of Des Linden, Shalane Flanagan, or Amy Cragg and raised any concerns? I didn't think so. I suppose their BMI is perfectly in line as well. I suppose their amenorrhea status is known by all you experts as well.
