Stays skinny and keeps crushing it.

Pretty much
You have to think Mary Cain, Jordan Hasay and Klosterhalfen are the same story told thrice. Klosterhalfen is the beginning with the greatly improved results, Hasay the middle with great results at first and now chronic breakdowns and Mary Cain the end result.
Nope.
Cain was great and then fell off. Hasay was great in high school, plateaued in college, and now has overall excelled as a pro, though she has had recent injuries. KK was amazing at a young age and continues to steadily improve.
Three different stories.

Nope. Cain was great and chose not to dope.
Hasay and Koko both decided to dabble in the dark arts in addition to the crazy diet restriction. Hasay simply took longer to cross over (after 2016 track trials) than Koko after she joined the Project. Results spike immediately and then the pattern becomes unsustainable.
Stress fractures for all and for all a missed Olympic year!

How dare you!
KoKo was pretty skinny before the NOP. She may be less injured now. What is it that keeps them from getting injured? Hassan and KoKo are just so thing but so strong and never hurt! I wonder what it could be? Anybody know?

Was thin.
Is thin.
I think-
She’ll win.
Klosterhalfen is skinny but has really wide hips.

She gets her period?
Missing your period the biggest reg flag in women's sports physiology, and I can't believe how many idiots on these boards still don't get that. Add to that, as most athletes go through puberty later, it can take well into their early twenties for their bodies to stabilize.
Koko has a very different body type from Cain. She has had the matchstick figure since 2014 or even earlier, apparently without gaining or shedding weight but always remainings skinny but stable. She also supposedly ran low mileage until she was about 20, so her body had a longer time to adjust to strenuous training. (Accordingly, she was already 18 when she got really good with 4:09 and 8:53.) And she joined NOP a few months before turning 22, not with 17 or younger. Koko never had a stress fracture and overall hardly any injuries (except once in spring 2018). If anything, she gained a tiny bit of muscle in the year she has been with NOP as she is doing more weight and stability training there, she has not becoming skinnier with them. Whatever story it will be, it has been and will be different from Cain's.

Winning doesn't come cheap. Pay the price or not. You choose.
The bigger problem in the usa is obesity. You cant compete as a fat american. the africans are also very very slim and its the way to success. If you cant run while being slim you are just not talented as a runner
KK, Hasay and Hassan were all really thin when they joined NOP. Perhaps they can survive there because they are not being pushed so much to get thinner, just being pushed to train hard.
Cain and Tara Erdmann(Welling) maybe not so much. Goucher also?
talking thin here( as in ectomorph lower muscle mass) and not so much lean (low body fat). All top runners are lean.
the men too? Kejelcha and Brazier are also really thin.
Part of the reason for thyroid meds was that extended calorie restriction tanks your thyroid, which leads to various downstream effects. I'm sure thyroid medication wasn't the only tool in Alberto's arsenal, but it got a lot of attention.
Just something to think about when you see athletes who somehow avoid the burnout cycle that we typically see with exceptionally skinny female athletes.
Koko has been really improving well every year. The 3000 run this year showed what an unbelievable athlete she's become. Hopefully 2020 will have her attack some world records and that she may get close to the 5000 outdoor record if not outright grab it. Would love if she can get both the 3000 & 5000 WR
