I'm not a fan of Mary Cain; however, I can appreciate that she is really a once in a lifetime athlete for U.S. Africa may breed such an athlete once every 5 to 10 years but in the U.S. a athlete of Mary Cain caliber only happens once in a lifetime. The young lady was able to smash any hs record she focused on and became the first scholastic female to run sub 2 minutes for 800m and yet still had the range to run sub 4:30 for the mile, and sub 15:50 for 5000m. She was a force in high school and I shudder to think what she would accomplish under Alberto Salazar.
For years I wonder why wasn't Mary Cain improving, why was she racing so poorly so often, injuried so much, and numerous other question about the child prodigy. Now that the question have been answered by what should have been apparent wthout her coming forward, we understand. Mary Cain is still only 23 and still have years to mature to the athlete that she should have been for the last 4-5 years....let's support Mary Cain on the road to greatness regardless if that's just in life or athletics. Not only does an athlete of her talent deserves our support after such abuse has been disclosed, any human being deserves our support against such powerful opposition.
