You would be surprised how wrong you are above in many cases as it pertains to this site (maybe there are some cases regarding personal attacks that people respond to). But I can assure you, there is a band of anti-Nike shills on this website and that is clear as I have monitored it carefully and some of it does come from within.

Hopefully this brings attention to the fact that there are toxic coaches at the collegiate level who are just like this. Recruiting visits lack transparency and prospective athletes have no idea what kind of person their future coach is. The NCAA is filled with coaches who view their athletes as points at the conference meet rather than viewing them as people. They put the long term health of their athletes on the line and don’t care about the consequences as long as they are winning. I’m sure there are many runners who put on a smile on race day but go through much deeper struggles when nobody is watching. A coach’s top priority should be to make sure their athletes are healthy and set up for long term success. Unfortunately this is not the case and most coaches live by the “win at all costs” mantra. The devastating reality in college athletics is that most coaches lack a moral compass and only care about themselves.

Nike is denying it had any prior knowledge of the allegations of physical and emotional abuse leveled by former Nike Oregon Project athlete Mary Cain that were published in a New York Times video today.

In the article, she claimed she was victimized during her time with the company’s running group and its former head coach Alberto Salazar.

“These are deeply troubling allegations which have not been raised by Mary or her parents before,” a Nike spokesperson told FN in a statement today. “Mary was seeking to rejoin the Oregon Project and Alberto’s team as recently as April of this year and had not raised these concerns as part of that process.”

The Australian Institute of Sport, a tax payer funded organisation, went through all this bullshit years ago, and it wasn't just distance runners. They had to stick to certain rules on lots of things and were also regularly given skinfold tests to monitor weight, fat, etc.

Those who couldn't make the grade went to the media and it all got blown out of proportion, they seemed to forget it was taxpayers money and thought they could do what they wanted.

Only difference here is it's Nike's money.
