Win at all costs because the coach wanted her to lose weight? Imagine a coach at the highest level of the sport not being able to tell his athlete she’s too heavy. That’s where track has reached. And people wonder why Track is dying and not taken seriously. This isn’t high school or college, this is professional sports. Did she really think she could sign a professional contract and then gain weight and underperform and nobody would say anything?
Good points.
Anorexia and bulimia are serious and sometimes deadly conditions but they occur very rarely compared to the deadly epidemic of obesity that onsets sooner and sooner among youngsters. So many high school and college age females look like women in their thirties who have just had their 4th kid.
It is apparently abusive to stress playing weight to a pro athlete but the dominant chick /marketing culture celebrates obesity and encourages young girls and women to embrace and love their obese bodies despite the health risks posed.
Marketing uber alles.
