Oh yeah I would give myself an A- grade taking into account my results off 40mpw and I used the nike Pegasus 35

Set a PR of 2:30 while wearing Vaporfly Next% shoes. Would give a grade of B+. Hit relatively even splits throughout the race and was on pace to break 2:30, but the hills towards the end broke me and I struggled to the finish.
I was trying out some new Nike clothing and shoes. I finished well past 3 hours, but I am over 40 years old. Asked my girlfriend to marry me, she said no. Not my best day.
Grade: C
Ran my debut marathon and was hoping for a sub-3 and BQ, but overcooked the first 8 miles, running in the 6:40s and even dipped into the 6:30s for a few miles. Was already feeling a bit tired at mile 15-16, but could still click off 6:50s. Started slowing down even more at mile 20 into the 7:00+ min/mile range and then calf cramps at mile 22.5 started affecting my stride. By mile 24, cramps became much more severe and had spread to my quads - had to stop, walk, and stretch out my legs several times all the way through to the finish to lessen the pain.
Loved the energy of the crowds especially in Brooklyn - First Ave was honestly not nearly as loud as I had expected it to be given all the tips I had heard about not going too fast up First Ave. I've read some comments on Letsrun on NYC being an "experience" marathon and a one-and-done experience due to the deceptively difficult course and nightmarish logistics, but I feel I have unfinished business with the course and would love to give the course a second shot! But am also highly motivated to find a much flatter and faster course for my BQ attempt :)

They cleared up the area when coming off the Queensboro bridge. Right where you make the sharp 180 degree turn off the bridge onto the 58th street, that used be full of SCREAMING crowds. Yesterday it was empty. I guess NYPD cleared it out for safety reasons... The First Avenue was definitely louder the last year, too... As for the loudest part, it is definitely Williamsburg on Bedford Ave. Those folks are NUTS!!! In a good way, I was just running faster through there to get away from them... LOL
Oh and my report card: C
Barely any training, 20-30 miles per week of easy running and fartleks, no long runs, my longest being 14 mile trail run in the past 6 months... 3:05 in VF Flyknit at 50 yo... I'll take it but I got to get my s**t together and train properly for my next marathon: Sub-2:50 here I come in 2020!!!

More than Boston? I ran Boston a couple years ago and actually wasn't impressed by the crowd support. NYC sounds funner.
Give myself a solid B+ just under 2:47 in my cheaterflys, ran out of gas the last couple miles, but was close to a pb, weather was nice, windy in spots but not bad.
I give myself an incomplete, as I didn't run the race, and didn't even register to run.

New York has bigger crowds during the whole race. However, Boylston street has the best crowd of them all.

London is the place to run for great crowds.

3:05 at 50 with no training?
I'm in my 40s and no way in hell could I do that on 20-30 miles a week.
I'm giving you a B.
2:52 for my marathon debut will give myself an A, thought on my best day I would run a 2:57. Went through the half in 1:23 (A PR at the distance ) and at that pointed was committed to going for it. Had some rough miles from 21 to 24 (and did a lot of watch watching, running numbers in my head) but was able to hold it together enough the last couple to hit my time.
Looking forward to Boston in 2021... anyone know what the weather's supposed to look like?
marathon debut - 2:53:39 - first 12 week training cycle - give myself a B+ on the training cycle and a B on the race execution...ate too much before, and had mild cramping miles 22-23 even though felt really strong before / cardio was fine. Left at least a minute out there because I had to slow down to the high 6s last 3 miles. Otherwise, was a great race.
2:54, C-
Goal was 2:45.
All signs pointed to hitting the target time, but I think I just really screwed up my fueling strategy. It's a PR for NYC, but tried to implement some new things and failed miserably down the last 10k as a result. Cut out all carbs for about a week before the race to get just a little lighter. I then just ate a ton of oatmeal and rice the day before. Also, switched gels in the last 2 wks from Hammer to Maurten, but they didn't seem to agree with me. Vomited profusely at the finish and every single muscle in my legs locked up. Felt like I was getting enough fluids, but I need to do more research on proper fueling for this distance. I'd also say that conditions were a little warmer than ideal.
Shoes: Asics DS Trainers, pretty much all I've ever raced in. I'm pretty sure a bunch of guys on this thread wearing bright pink or lime green shoes flew past me in the last mile. Still, don't think they're for me.
Solid B. 3:08 for this 48 yr old. (PR was 2:58 4 years ago pre tibial SFX & slowly trying to get back there)
Goal was sub-3:05, which I thought was realistic given my training & the NYC course. Was going to roll with 3:05 pace group but started too far back from them & had to work a little bit to catch up, which I did by Mile 9. Felt pretty good, but then stomach issues got me and had to hit the port-o-john right before the half, and after that I could not fuel properly for fear of a return toilet stop.
Note to self - don't go for the spicy calamari the night before!
Grade: A-
2:48 with a goal of breaking 2:50. Felt very strong throughout most of the race, and paced it right along the elevation changes. I hit a bit of a rough patch between 20-23, but rallied for a very strong 5k finish. I kicked hard to the finish in the last 800. I've never finished a marathon with that kind of strength and energy.
I had a flawless training cycle with big workouts and high mileage (peak of 90 miles). The cycle also included a HM PR of 1:18:30, and mile PR of 4:41. But the reason that I gave myself an A- instead of an A is that perhaps I underperformed given my times at shorter distances. That said, the marathon is not my event. I am more speed oriented.
10min PR in Next%
Ran 4:24. Was hoping for sub-4. Somewhere around 15-16 my stomach was really bothering me. I knew if I took any more gels they would come up. So just had water. Hours later, still in pain, I show my wife a bump in my groin the size of an orange. She is frightened by the sight of it and she takes me to the hospital. Seems during the race I developed a hernia. Had surgery early Monday.
Should be coming home Wednesday.
Dayumn....you get a NYC purple heart or something. Cray cray!
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
