Hello, I’ve been t1 diabetic for about 12 years and a runner for about 10 :)
My PRs are 159 426 950 1550 1:17(half)
I’ve always wanted to run a marathon, however I’ve been learning note about my metabolic stuff and how my blood sugar affects that during runs? So normal people’s blood sugar runs 80-100 while mine is more in that 120-150 range is what I deem acceptable before runs/generally. It is very difficult to be 80-100 and not risk going low during exercise.
My questions are:
Does this affect the quality of my training? Since My body is basically higher glucose adapted
How can someone like me run a good marathon? I don’t know if I’d wear my insulin pump But I think I’d need to be able to take insulin for gels and stuff. Howwwever not exactly sure if my blood sugar would just go low- essentially causing me to tank in pace/consider dropping out... in my mind it’s better to run it with a little bit higher blood sugar from the gels (maybe in the range of 150-200). 200 would cause me to have to pee excessively tho.. such a meticulous effort it would have to be
Maybe wear pump and a blood sensor for the race? Only worn my pump once or twice on a run, not the lightest thing clinging to ur hip.
