Of course America has dumb @$$ rules like this . How else would we be so free.

Actually you are allowed to wear it. You just need to get an exemption for it which she and or her coach failed to do.
Needing an exemption to race in a hijab is outright discrimination! This is absolutely ridiculous! There is no good reason to have a rule like this!! There is really no substantial difference between wearing a toque or balaclava on a cold day than wearing a hijab, given the hijab is tucked in so it can't get caught on or interfere with others.
you are correct and we are right to discriminate

They are losing it in Ohio.
America is God's country. We need to protect our Christian heritage. hijabs are not running attire

Actual conservatives believe in (a) religious freedom, and (b) elimination of meaningless regulations. It's a high school cross country race for God's sake. Let her wear the hijab if she wants.
As an actual liberal who also believes in religious freedom (both of and from) and elimination of meaningless regulations (who wouldn't? the point of any debate is to figure out what's meaningful and what's not), I agree with you 100%.

Excellent exchange, this 'used' to be what made America great!
Any more just the idea of 'making America great again' is offensive to at least half the population.
This isn't about Trump either, it's about sniveling nit-wits who can't stand an opposing opinion. And this, my friends, cuts both ways.
Nowhere in the rules does it state that she can't wear that hat.

> Unlike other religious items, a hijab, to great degree, masks the identity of a runner from behind.
> Unlike track, the pace and rhythm of an xc race is frequently set by those around/ahead of you. In large hs xc meets, runners are always squaring up against the guys/gals theyve seen and raced against at dual/league meets. Runners with hijabs distort this element of the sport.
> Sure, this is one girl (and maybe a few dozen total in the US in hs xc),I'm just saying.
Plus..
Also, I skimmed the OHSAA manual, which is short, easy to read, and easy to find, and it's quite obvious. Nobody at her school had the brains to read it?
I was at an OH CC meet a couple weeks ago where it was 30's, cloudy, damp, and breezy, and the kids weren't allowed to wear t-shirts under their team jerseys. Seriously. These rules are about something other than the athletes.
just because it's in the rules doesn't mean they can legally enforce it. lets face it, nobody reads the rules and it is also common sense that a hijab is allowed due to freedom of religion. this "exception" rule is probably just a way that allows them to disqualify people without coming off as racist. it's not like jewelry that could physical hurt herself or others, it's just a piece of cloth. it's no different than your singlet or your shorts
This nonsense doesn’t happen in Japan. Know why? These dopey people with their stupid clothing are thrown the hell OUT. No head rags, mosques...... nothing. This craphole country should follow suit.
There are 50 moslem countries in this world and that is where these people should be going.
Why do they come to the USA? I think we know why.

Oh she can probably wear it, if everyone else on the team does as part of the official team uniform. Regardless, no religious exemptions should be made, or else you eventually end up with nudists and the like.
Would you rather be a Christian in a Muslim country or a Muslim in America (a Christian country)?

Yes. Yes. Very cold outside. Hat stay warm.
Leftists believe all cultures are equal. Stop being naive. The hijab is a symbol of oppression against women.

A Muslim man slaps a woman for not wearing a hijab.

A Muslim woman tries to force another to wear the hijab.
All of you leftist feminists are hypocrites for allowing the oppression of women with the hijab.
Forget the religious freedom angle. Just ask yourself this question: does the rule under discussion need to be in place to maintain the fairness or safety of the event? If the answer is "no," then the rule shouldn't exist.
I don't really care much for religion of any kind. I don't really care if she was wearing a hijab or a where's Waldo cap. What a runner wears on their head just isn't something that needs to be regulated by anyone other than the runner.
I’m truly impressed. Generally LRC posters seem to be a bunch of racist, misogynistic jerks. But when it comes down to something that clearly is wrong with respect to the basic freedoms that we expect as a just society then you come through as tolerant and intelligent gentlemen and ladies.
Perhaps there is hope for the USA despite the clown show in DC.

You really should open your mind.
How can you believe a country is free if it bans ideas and culture?
You only support the specific actions here because you don’t agree with Islam. But when the precedent is set that the ‘land of the free’ decides who is free and who is not, it’s only a matter of time before things you believe in are discriminated against and banned.
Freedom isn’t given it’s taken, and by exercising freedoms it is maintained.
