Anyone at the Utah state meet know what happened to Thomas Boyden? He was leading at the mile of the 5A boys race, but it appears he DNF'd.

Correct he DNF’d. Pretty shocking. Wasn’t feeling well apparently and went down with about 800 left when he was leading. After the race he was walking around and seemed ok. Tough break for a kid who has been absolutely dominant losing only to Cole and Leo this season.
Yeah, very strange. You never know what can happen on meet day. The guy set the meet record at bob firman and coupled that with a 14:39 5k a week later. Must've been something very extraordinary or sickness of some sort, or maybe just one of those races. Rumor has it he's doing footlocker again though. Should be one of the favorites going into it.
Yes... he’ll be back in a big way at footlocker. I think he’ll be scary. He’s gotta be pissed how today turned out. I wouldn’t want to race him on six weeks of rest and mulling over his performance at state. He’s my pick to win FL.
I was there today just to watch him. He was like 5:04 at the mile, I expected much faster, and in the next 80 yards he seemed to slow. I thought something was wrong at that point. I was wondering is Bob Firman a new course or something? Cause I know in 2014 Connor Mantz and Tanner Anderson of Washington, duked it out at Bob Firman. They went 14:52 and like 14:54. I also think Puskedra went faster than that way back. Thomas had a great 14:59 all alone. I was just wondering when I saw his time was a record. Ill have to check Bob Firman results 2014. Hope Thomas does destroy all man at Footlocker!

The Bob Firman course changed in 2015. Can't compare Mantz and Puskedra's times as the new course is substantially slower. Unfortunately you've only got a handful of elite runners to compare Boyden to and he lost to 2 of them this year.
He's a great runner. Best of luck to him. Very odd that he would drop out of a state championship meet. I've never heard of that. Hopefully he was just I'll and not injured.
I was at the race too and he didn't seem super hot, but I also heard that he apparently twisted his ankle near the beginning. Not sure if that's accurate, but that's the rumor that was floating around at the meet.

Beg to differ. He is super hot.
Wut?
The new course is slightly faster, but that's only due to a less congested start and a smoother surface along the finish. The difference in times for the top athletes is absolutely negligible, and the benefit to the midpack athletes isn't really that much either - it only really effected the teams/runners that would get out to a slow start over the first 200m at a big/deep meet like Firman and NXR, and even then there was 4800m left to make up any lost ground - so some might have lost 3-6 seconds but that's about it.
Functionally, there is no reason to not include prior times, and if you were to somehow convince yourself that you should, it would be that the current course is faster (even though it isn't) - not slower.
Puskedra ran 14:49 in 2007. That is still the best performance on the course.
Mantz ran 14:51.29 in 2014, still the second best performance on the course.
Anderson was second in that 2014 race in 14:55.66, the third best mark.
