Hey Everyone,
35/M (started running in 2010, started taking it more serious in 2016). Trying to make some sense of the wheels coming off recently this past Sunday at the Detroit International Half. Goal was 7:05-10 pace. Went with 7:15 pacer for first 4 miles to keep myself from going out too quick over the bridge (very big climb). Felt pretty good . Get to the tunnel at mile 7, still feeling locked in, was at 7:10 pace. Climbing out of the tunnel back into the US (mile 8, pretty big climb again) my legs were really feeling it. 7:15 pace caught me and passed, I told myself "don't let him go", tried my hardest to stay with him but it wasn't even close, legs were toast. Wasn't out of breath, legs would not go. Trotted and walked some to the finish.
I didn't really start running consistent this year until late March. But I feel like the biggest lesson I've learned is that year round consistent running is huge. Usually I don't really start running a lot until April and then hope to do well at my favorite race (Crim 10 miler) in August. I really want to keep everything going right now and have a huge base over the winter to start training for a spring race, and then hopefully that can set me up for a good Crim in August.
My question is: do you think I got enough long runs in to have a decent half this year? Below are all my runs over 9 miles for the year. Here is my monthly mileage for the year: Feb: 140 March: 96 April: 135 May: 131 June: 144 July: 165 Aug: 142 Sept: 112 Oct: 128
Was my half goal (base off of Crim) too aggressive? Am I trash? Do I simply need more consistent miles/long runs? Appreciate any feedback. I apologize if the formatting is terrible :(

Longest run in June was 8 miles, still had 144 for the month, I had a big backpacking trip that took a lot out of me so I never did anything longer to fully recover.
