My own experience with the race is that they fell victim to a lot of factors...County/City and Police OT fees, bad organization and the "me first road running" mentality that is prevalent today.
The actual running of the race was fine. Not sure why you need to do "day before race" pickup of your number when you literally have about 250 entrants in your marathon. If 5Ks can have that many and almost all do same day packet pick-up, surely they could have figured out this.
No way in h*ll should this race have cost what it did. It's held on "off-season" for the area. Not on a closed to traffic course. No swag. Limited aid. I know the county was probably absolutely gouging for permit fees and the police OT added up quickly...which is NOT the fault of the race organization, but still.
Many of today's runners want to essentially, be coddled. They want swag, the way want cheering fans the whole way, they want closed courses, water every 2 miles, great weather 100% of the time, etc. This race was none of that. It was, for lack of a better term, an "old school type" marathon. You show up. You run the distance as fast as you can.
