Hi,
I'm a 30 y/o male.
I've just ran my first HM a few weeks ago with a time of 1:28:24. This is off the back of c.3 months of training averaging 50-60km per week, with one long run on the weekend and one tempo or interval mid week. Before this, I have never really taken running seriously and only ran on and off for about two years or so, probably averaging 10-15km per week.
I'm thinking about signing up for another HM in March or April next year. Is sub 1:20 too ambitious a target?
I'm planning on improving my aerobic base with some easy miles + weekend long runs for the next 2-3 months. Closer to the target race, I'll start a 10-12 weeks HM specific training plan with the aim of building more tempo and interval work into the weekly schedule. In terms of mileage, I would be looking to maintain 50-60km per week for the aerobic base building and bumping this up to 70km per week during the peak weeks of my specific HM training cycle. Unfortunately due to work, family and social commitments, 70km per week is probably the maximum that I can do.
I would be grateful for any advice.
