Bye....
It's odd because I would've thought that this retirement thread, like others, would be comprised of posts about her accomplishments and favorite moments.
Would like to see her coach Hasay.
Loved her fight. Top class athlete who did things the right way.

Pretty sure she mentioned Erin Donahue. You can’t mention every single person she trained with over 20+ years.
anyone have that great picture of half a dozen UNC women crashing into each other at a finish line? All blonde? I think Shalane was in that pile-up. great picture.
It was truly one of the most hilarious sports photographs of all time. It has vanished from the internet, no doubt someone took offense. Here are the official results:

She put out a book, Run Fast; Eat Slow.
I checked it out of the local library and actually found it was good!
Obviously it was not at the finish and it was not a bunch of UNC girls (just powder blue Nike unis).
I am a fan of Shalane.
But, Frank Ineos, check your facts, or try to, before you post:

Thanks..the Ultimate "Blonde Moment"!
I googled everything I could think of. Now bookmarked under "humor".
Deena
Joanie

Who's the best female American distance runner if it's not Shalane?

Too bad she was totally classless a few times in her life. She and Kara pretend they were great friends, but when Kara left Shalane did not mention her once.
Plus that whole thing with Jordan Hasay left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth. She has a RBF. I think she's not as nice as the media tries to make her.
I'm trying to decide where she fits into the American Women marathoners ranking

This but also consider that since these women have voiced criticisms of the NOP, it's head coach and endocrine doctor have received 4-year bans from USADA so it's not like their criticisms were unfounded. Some would prefer they had remained silent. To each his own.

You mean Deena didnt start a public hissy fit when a road race in Paso Robles refused to accommodate her wine country junket?

Can we call this photo 5 Non Brunettes?
Class act all round, tough competitor, great ambassador for the sport. Sorry to see her retire but glad I got to watch her career!

Congrats on an amazing, inspiring career. In less than two weeks I’ll be picturing you and imagining I look as smooth and powerful as you in the later miles of nyc and hope to deliver my own “ f yeah” as I cross the finish line with a (hopefully) new PR.
Ps. I hope you never read this because you’re much too good for this cesspool.
You’re a disgrace to males everywhere, you pansy.
Call me crazy. But even at the very very end of your career, there is an olympics in 10 months... don't you still go for it?
If it was 2, 3 years away, yeah then phuck it. But 10 months for once last chance at glory. Guess I just think differently than pro athletes which is why I am not one.
