I'm hoping to get 50+ mpw of outdoor running this winter in Chicago, but have never ran more than ~20 minutes with snow on the ground before. Typical winter footing here is a mixture of clear sidewalk, packed snow, and some icy patches.
I'm looking for a shoe with good grip, maybe some waterproofing, and >=6mm of heel drop.
I've been running in the past winters in La Sportiva Ultra Raptor's, but these are heavy and wouldn't be fun for me to run in for more than 30 or 40 minutes IMO.
A few shoes I'm looking at:
Nike Pegasus Shield or Nike Pegasus Trail with goretex
Saucony Peregrine 8 ICE (only 4mm of drop, unsure how water resistant)

Any recommendations, either for shoes or general winter running tips?
