As a competitive female runner for 20+ years & very liberal and completely supportive of gay and trans rights, this is really black & white: It’s just not fair to other female athletes. Full stop. No amount of research, papers, studies will be able to determine at what point/surgery/hormone level a trans male to female now is ‘equal’ to a woman and thus has the right to compete with them.
Do I sympathize with June? 100%. Do I think she has the right to still run, compete and enjoy the sport she loves? 100%. Do I think her times/results/place should count in actual NCAA competition? No I do not.
Where does the line need to be drawn? When records are broken by trans athletes that no woman will ever be able to break? June has the right to be happy, Run, be part of a team and compete but her results should all have a big fat * next to them to denote that this is not a legit result.
Stuff happens and people can’t compete at the level they once did. In situations where someone decides to transition they should understand that your days of legit competition in your gender category are over. That’s part of the sacrifice. The fact a former male transitioning to a female feels it’s fair to compete with women is crazy. She should run for the sake of running. Bit of a thought bender but she isn’t respecting the new gender she now claims to be part of by thinking she is fairly competing.
