I feel like sometimes your body is so sore and tired that your appetite doesn’t pick up like it normally would. Goes without saying, but you really should be eating quite a bit after races. I’ve experienced this feeling you’re describing after a marathon, but at shorter distances I couldn’t wait to eat afterwards.

we went in this cafe after the race and I kinda hate the food there but I needed to eat something so I had it. but I think it just ruined my appetite for the whole day. in particular it was really milky porridge, like a gloopy soup. if I eat porridge (oatmeal) at home I don't use much milk, so it's pretty dense and tastes good but it doesn't fill me up. i'm wondering if the porridge has made me kind of stuffed all day on not many calories plus I took an imodium before the race and that might have done it. feels crap though. running usually makes me feel good about food! maybe this is a bit messed up but I like feeling hungry and love the empty/rumbly stomach feeling. I don't like it when I don't have that, heh

You are probably racing too close to your threshold, around 4-6 mmol. If you want to get really hungry after a 5k, you need to race it VERY hard at 8-12 mmol. At these lactate levels, you burn 100% carbohydrates and literally no fat which will make you extremely hungry.
I recommend doing a lactate test in a lab to find out how much lactate you produce at different speeds. Chances are you can race much faster if you primarily raced a 5k at/around threshold before.
