They train in valley green. Sometimes called the Wissahickon. 5 mile gravel road. Same place tiernen trains now and Ajee Wilson and her team.

Those are all great locations to run in Philly, I’m just perplexed that they can grab talent like that when it’s hard to go out for a run when you step out of your dorm room/campus. Very busy streets around Temple. I couldn’t imagine taking team transportation so often just to go train.
Same challenge of any urban school. 15 minute drive to a world class trail system. 15 foot wide gravel path 5 miles long w bathroom/water fountain halfway. Many more miles of single track trails on each side of the valley. They can run 2 miles down girard and dip down onto the drives. 8.5 mile ashphalt loop on the river w 1/4 mile markers. They have a new track on campus. Lot worse places to train. Penn deals w the same thing.

When i ran there in the 80s they bused over to Belmont for practice every day. So we had as good a traiing envirnment as any city-based program could ever want. I'm guessing it's similar now.
Great job to the coach there...doing it with club track. Although I guess that helps stretch your scholarship $$ for distance kids.
Pretty hilarious that they beat Penn St. actually. Always hated them.
Were you not intimidated by that obnoxious WE ARE PENN STATE bullshit? In the four years I was there we didnt say those four words even once. But back then we ran with our legs, not out mouths.

Penn State is where distance runners go to die...
True.
Back in the day we never had a sub 9:00 kid. Yet Penn State now gets them every year and none of them produce. They have the best training environment you could possibly have and a world class indoor track. You need coaching and leadership. Coaching is a fixed variable, but if the coach isn't going to lead, then its up to the athletes to take responsibility themselves and lead. It starts with high expectations and it's measured by higher performances.
Good job Temple. You deserve it.

Someone who isn’t familiar with Penn State might read the above and be inclined to believe that PSU was good in George’s day, so just to clarify, no, they were not. PSU’s last championship was in 1950 and malmo’s squad wasn’t Shit, whatever body part they talked with.

Silly little girl.
I was at the National Open yesterday. This might not directly equate to a fast team, however, the Temple men were possibly the tallest XC team I have ever seen. Every single athlete was well over 6'.
If you know their coach, James Snyder, you're not surprised at all. Smart coach, relentlessly positive, strong character. He is well into the process of making Temple a solid, respectable program...
Coach Snyder has been doing a great job for several years now. He's had several women's athletes qualify for regionals and one for nationals. The men's team has made stay progress each year. Snyder recruits more than almost any college coach. He does an excellent job of finding kid that are willing to go to temple and buy into the process. I'm sure they will continue to get better.
I also believe he was coaching 3:38 guy Brandon Hudgins back in 2015/2016. Don't know if they are still together or if he's still running, but just goes to show you the guy can coach anything from 800-10k xc.
Good on Temple for hiring the dude and sticking by him after they dumbed men's track.
All I want from Philly is a good cheese steak with peppers.
Youse can have the rest, YO!

Not appropriate there Malmo...Nonetheless, the record shows PSU was was a regular top 10 finisher in the 70's and early 80's. Have no idea what is going on nowadays in Happy Valley.
