Hall took to Instagram to throw some shade at carbon fiber plates in shoes
Editor's note: Hall wrote the following:
With all due respect to @kipchogeeliud as he is clearly the greatest marathoner of all-time irregardless of the shoes he is in, when a shoe company puts multiple carbon fiber plates in a shoe with cushion between the plates it is no longer a shoe, it’s a spring, and a clear mechanical advantage to anyone not in those shoes. I’m just hoping @iaaf_athletics makes sure the upcoming Olympics and @wmmajors are fair playing fields for athletes of all brands.

Well, if it's like Ryan says and is "a clear mechanical advantage to anyone not in those shoes" then just don't wear the shoes. Ok, obviously he made a typo, as these shoes seems to be like a sort of exo-skeleton that will help runners who have weak feet the most.
Is there a list of barefoot world records anywhere? -
Zero problem with Ryan stating his opinion and possibly helping Sara's chances if she makes the Olympics.
Huge problem with "irregardless". -

Regardless, the point stands. Those don’t look like shoes at all. More like enclosed trampolines. -
Irregardless
I thought he went to Stanford? -
Nike marketing people could not be happier with this situation. Pure gold for them. And for free.

These Nike shoes make you so fast it is unfair. That’s what he’s saying. Could you even conceive a better situation for Nike. -
He lost me at "irregardless."

by irregardless does he mean "not regardless"?
-
If ASICS came out with their version of this while he was flying downhill in Boston and he ran 2:01 instead of 2:04 he would be praising ASICS for their continued innovation, support, and dedication to the sport.

Brojos, do you think that the Nike lawyers will contact you?
-
Yeah, Ryan and Sara a little embarrassing to Stanford on the academic/intellectual front. Wonderful, committed people, but not the sharpest tools in the drawer. Ryan was a 4:01 high school miler who probably had straight A's at a weak rural high school, and that's more than enough to meet the admissions criteria for a recruited athlete.

Possibly. And I held on out on this for a while, but I see his point. If you gave Brooks or Asics free reign to design a shoe to go fast with no rules, surely they could come up with a spring loaded shoe (ie. Spira) or similar. But, I think there is either a written or unwritten rule to play within certain guidelines. It's not like Nike is the first one to think of trampoline shoes--they're just the first ones to do it.
For all we know, this was a one-time thing for a non-sanctioned event. Or maybe they're going crazy with the designs because they can, and the IAAF or no one else is trying to stop them.
I'd be curious what the rules are for basketball shoes. These things look like they could give you an extra few inches of vertical. -

Yep it is. I know I'll be buying a pair for trials. I'm not letting everyone else have a legal 2 minute advantage on me. -
Irregardless is a word sometimes used in place of regardless or irrespective, which has caused controversy since the early twentieth century, though the word appeared in print as early as 1795. Most dictionaries list it as non-standard or incorrect usage, and recommend that "regardless" should be used instead. Wikipedia
I always use regardless. Women should not wear yoga pants, regardless if they are comfortable or not, because they may be oblivious to the fact their appearance is unflattering if they don't have the proper geometrical flow to enhance the fabric's visual appeal.

Homeboy Ryan Hall just try a stay relevant.

Let's ban altitude tents, garmins, the new lighted pacing rails as well.
If Kipchoge wore one of the other brands with a carbon fiber plate would there be this much criticism? Doubtful. -
If these shoes are legal, it's other shoe companies fault for not making something similar as Vaporfly.
When Adidas came out with Boost, they had advantage over other cushioning system at that time. Although not as big of an advantage as Vaporfly, but still an advantage, so other companies have copied and have come up with something similar.
