One of the best US writers of the 19th century.
Thank you for the response. Was he also a valued thinker?

So what's the verdict here? Was Poe any good?
yes, he was a literary genius. Do you like detective stories and horror stories? If so, you have him to thank.
Heard he ran a 22 minute 5k. Wonder what he could have done in today’s cheaterflys
Most guys with 3 names are serial killers. He would qualify as good simply by not being a serial killer.
What's all this talk about? Why's Poe so special to the world of literature?
"22 minute 5k" - Link or it didn't happen.
This one did:

Yeah, I suppose you have to be pretty important for your middle name to ever become relevant.
Yes. The Raven, Annabelle Lee, and The Tell Tale Heart were all works of Poe I had to read in middle school but still remember today.
Baltimore ravens named after his poem,
Quoth the raven, “Nevermore.”
Always sends chills down the spine.
I memorized The Raven in seventh grade.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Louisa May Alcott, and William Makepeace Thackeray all had three names and were not serial killers.

Good? Poe was great. Many scholars regard him as one of the greatest literary minds of all time.
I would go so far as to say he's one of the smartest people to have ever lived.
I just figured it out. OP= a high school student who has to write a paper on Poe.
"While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door."
I'm not sure why, but this line from "The Raven," which I read in high school, has always stayed with me.
I'm not a fan of poetry, but I love Poe.
In bed? I suppose so. Good from the point of view of a 19th century lady. Just don't go digging him up you necrophilic freak.
Poe was a writer who was under-appreciated at the time, who became a household name for the Raven, among a host of other poems and critiques that gained notoriety thereafter. I think it’s safe to say that his works have been influential in the world of literature, and they’ve even formed the standard for at least one genre.
He has a very good feel for rhyme and meter, but his subject matter is pretty childish and uninspiring: i.e. death, depression, mysticism.
