Why not institute an american track league?
We already have "track clubs" like btc and tinman. Why not go all out? Ya know, city based teams, one or two athletes per event, regular season mixed bag meets + the occasional dual meet, and all that jazz. Sort of borrow from both the NCAA track model and from other professional sports leagues. Maybe then we could provide the sport with all that it's missing now: a standardized and practical anti-doping approach, appeal for the casual fan (local teams can and will generate a fanbase), and something more digestible for a t.v. audience. Maybe it would even persuade the big shots to actually compete with each other from time to time instead of time trialing until worlds every year.
