How can Hasay compete with Kosgei when Kosgei warms up with Hasay's PR and the proceeds to run ANOTHER 23 miles?

Kosgei’s last 7k split was also faster than Mo Farah’s.
Hasay can't compete with that. It's way above her level. Who could compete with Bolt? Who could compete with Michael Johnson? Who could compete with Bekele? Why would you expect mid tier pros to compete with the best of the best?
Just like every other sport there is a hierarchy. Kirk Cousins is never going to be Tom Brady no matter how hard he trains. He'll have a respectable career as a mid level pro just like Jordan Hasay.

I wouldn't be surprised if this new record is struck from the books in the next year or two.
More to the point. she violated the marathon's unwritten rules about trying new shoes on race day.

Who can compete with Kosgei right now?

You mean who could compete with a mad doper? Or are you a doping apologist??

I don't think any Woman can beat her, but Ruth Chepngetich might give her a race, MORE WILL COME to challenge Kosgei, In 5 years 2:15-2:16 will be expected to win the Top races, though Kosgei might get down to 2:12 by then.
A better Question who will break Kastor's 2:19.36 American Record?

How many touchdown passes do you think Hasay will throw?
She can’t at least not for the next 4 yrs while her coach is banned.

I would expect a mid-tier pro to be able to have a 5K PR faster than what the marathon world record holder could run for the first 5K of a marathon when the world record holder would then have to run another 23 miles.
Sisson, Ostrander
Actually at the 2017 Boston Marathon Hasay Beat Kosgei by a little over 8 minutes, Hasay was 3rd, Kosgei was 8th.
I don’t think she likes girls, Sally, and you shouldn’t drive angry.
That was then this is now.

People keep repeating this like it's impressive. Mo had slowed down a LOT. The 5k between 35-40k was 16:06 and he ran 5:30s after that. His first 5k was 14:47.

what a difference getting on Rosas hot sauce and getting off al sal sauce can do in 2 yrs....
but renato has rosas back so its all good....and the blowjoes have renatos back so its all good.
im still very very interested in why the BLOWJOES had such a vendetta against al sal/NOP?
here is my take
wejo dropping huge in the 10k thanks to ghetto epo use from flagstaff...he thought by running 28 flat he would then be invited into the scientific doping of NOP...
but al sal said "no way, your slow, no leg speed, bad form....scientific doping will only at best drop you to maybe 27:50, thats too slow you ivy league brat"
wejo was super insulted and pissed, thinking that mom and dads money had pushed him through anything, yet it couldnt get him into NOP...so he made a personal pact "i will forever hate and wish for al sals downfall!!"

All she can do is try her best to be 100% and hope that Kosgei has an "off" day. That is how Des Linden won Boston and how Shalane won New York. Des and Shalane would get obliterated by top Kenyan/Ethiopian women in distance races in nearly every scenario. It is only when the exception occurs (abysmal weather/super slow sit and kick) that things like a medal or win can happen for elite US distance runners in a marathon, or even 5k/10k for that matter.
Hasay's 5k PR is very misleading as well. She never ran to her full potential on the track and it seems like the marathon is the only race distance where she can make linear improvements from. Her PR was from 2014. While 15:28 is an elite time, it isn't world class by any means. That's probably as fast as Katelyn Tuohy could run if you put her on a track instead of NXN in December. The best Womens 5000m runners in the world are running in the high 14:20s. Running faster than 15:20 for their 10k pace etc. I bet if you put Kosgei on a track to run 10000m, she would without a doubt run sub 30 (which would be like lapping Hasay twice in the same race). However, even with that much talent, there were races like the WC where Infeld and Huddle finished 3rd and 4th at the 10000m, even though on paper they weren't on the same level as some of the top Kenyans/Ethiopians.
It is extremely unlikely for a runner like Hasay to compete with someone on a completely different planet like Kosgei, but not necessarily impossible.
