I have been training for a marathon that is on October 26th. Early in September I started having some Achilles pain in my left ankle. It was bothering me enough that I decreased mileage and did not do any speed work for a week then I took an entire week off due to pain. When I started back I was pain free. This was 6 weeks away from the marathon. I had 3 weeks of good training after that with no pain and I was doing a gazillion eccentrics for the calf/Achilles area. Then last Monday (3 weeks out) I did a track work out and it flared up. I stopped immediately but it was still painful the next day. Even for walking. I did try again Friday and ran but it didn't go very well. It feels much better today and I will try to run on it this afternoon and see how it goes. I need advice on what to do about the marathon which is now 2 weeks out. If I'm able to run this week and it feels good should I go ahead and run the marathon? Or should I choose another that is about 5 to 6 weeks out so that I can get some good running in for a couple weeks then taper again? I know my time won't be what I had initially started training for and I'm ok with that. But at the same time I don't want to be completely miserable for 26 miles either. I realize I may need to just take time off. Sadly, this isn't my first rodeo with injury or Achilles tendonitis.
