I would say most high calibre athletes with that surgery never make it back. I am actually surprised his first race back is a marathon. I would say a good 15-20 miles with the lead pack would be an accomplishment.

There is no hating here. It is unclear whether you understand what the word means. One can make an honest appraisal of someone which may not be flattering but it may not stem from hate. Educate yourself.

How many times have I seen on these boards some version of "Rupp will DNF". So many times.

A lot of times when races were won, records were set.

Let's just wait until Sunday and let Rupp's running speak for itself.

Rupp clearly thought you asked when he found out about USADAs decision. He answered the same question minutes before. That is why he said "again, I read about it in the news". He read about the decision in the news.

He's not lying, and you can tell he was annoyed because he thought he had already answered the question moments before.

Gault was the most annoying voice on that video, not rupp. Kept asking the same questions when rupp kept saying he wanted to focus on the race.

I'm going to say that he will for sure finish unless there's a disaster. This may be his last paycheck for awhile.

I agree that he is lowering the expectations. He can't come right out and say it but in so many ways, Chicago is his tune-up for the Olympic Trials in February. That's the one that matters and he's not going to destroy himself on Sunday and jeopardize his chances to make the team.

Serious question: what are the requirements to collect an appearance fee at Chicago? Presumably you have to at least start the race but is there a deduction for a DNF? Is there some kind of a good faith clause regarding your preparation/fitness or effort on race day?

A training run , is not a race.

I have no opinions on who's guilty of what, but I echo the sentiment that he looked extremely suspicious of something (who knows what, and if it matters) in that interview. Clearly, his lawyers advised him, but he failed to practice the lines to come off as more authentic - or as authentic as Galen is capable of. Galen is about as authentic as Zack Levet. At this point, Galen is his own fan base, and that is a lonely place to be for a person inured to constant admiration. Because of his underdog status, I will root for him - not in running, of course, as I like others more, but in life. What kind of job will he get after all is said and done? How is he planning his retirement? Best of luck.
