Hey guys, I have a quick question I could really use some advice on. I am a collegiate runner, on a pretty mediocre team, so typically I do most my training alone. I ran around 26 flat in the 8k last year, but since then have increased mileage from about 90 last cross season to about 110-120 this XC season. My body has (seemingly) adapted quite well to mileage, and I have been feeling great and ripping workouts this season. Unfortunately, my races have not seen much improvement. I am running oh-so-slightly better than last year's XC season, but expected far greater improvements to match my newfound fitness. How can I reap the benefits of my mileage and run at the level I think I should be at? Like I said, I am feeling fairly good and do not think I am at a burnout. I just cant seem to race right.
PS. I hit the weight room pretty hard 3 times a week, and do strides after every run. I don't know how much diet might play a part in this. I used to be a vegetarian in high school, but I have since hopped off that wagon and now about 30% of my calories are from proteins (majority poultry and peanut butter).
PPS. I am a theatre major, so I do not think stress due to school work or lack of sleep is my issue.
