Having said that, if Kipchoge were to use these shoes in Tokyo I would say he's a cheater. The rules are clear. "Any type of shoe used must be reasonably available to all in the spirit of the universality of athletics"
That rule change wasn't in place for Rio but is on the books now.
IAAF needs to enforce the rules. I think any shoe out there should have be commercially available for some time period before it's allowed in competition. Maybe 6 months. Then people from other shoe companies can decide if they want to use it.
I don't think there isn't much debate for the roads that the Vaporflys are slightly faster than old shoes. But 1% at the elite level is a lot. If you're an adidas, brooks, Hoka , guy for the Trials, do you wear the Nikes at the Trials? Will their company let them?
