Been watching some short documentaries on Ethiopia and Kenyans runners these past few days. I am just awe struck by the dedication and hard world that goes into their training regime . Not just the immense discipline of training hard twice a day but the lack of food and nutrition that most of these upcoming lesser known runners face and also to the extent of reaching the training venue for some (they take bus) who stay a bit far. Got me wondering if these extra hardships by circumstance actually make them much stronger . For instance taking part in all these grueling workouts with lack of nutrition and then fueling yourself properly and resting well a week before a big event , i think its common sense that they would be much stronger both physically and mentally , i mean think about it .
Besides their 200-300km weekly run , the second thing that struck me the most are the drills being done. Look it up on Youtube for Ethiopian running drills . Some claim they do it for 2 hours at a time some days . How many of us pay that much attention and detail to drills ? Its all about perfection of balance and form .
I think the question on whether they are genetically gifted should be erased by now. And also i would
like to state with full confidence that a non African EPO runner would still not outrun an African EPO runner.
I just feel sad for most of these African runners man . Do you guys think sometimes at night before you go to sleep what if you were a runner born in Africa ?
Our 100% seems like 90% to them . So now who's willing to work 110% is the question .
Thank you .
