I realize he's the greatest and most consistent marathon runner in history, but he has to have a bad race at some point, right? What if father time finally catches up with him and he goes out in 60 and blows up finishing in 2:10?

Nothing would happen. Time would continue to go on and no one would care outside of LR clowns and Kipchoge himself.
He very well could miss the mark and not go sub 2. But blowing up and running a 70 min second half... yeah right. I don't think hes ever even jogged at 70 min half pace on easy runs . My 3 cents
I doubt he would crash that much. His slowest marathon outside his olympic victory is like 2:05 for his debut. So that's the worse I'll expect from him.
It'll be okay.
I think that everyone would start to laugh at Ineos and Nike mainly for this pointless exhibition. But it's unlikely to happen. At worst he run 2:03 with all that help, if he has a off day.
Wouldn't happen, worst case scenario is he would drop out with an "injury" to save face rather than finish with a slow time

Could go like this

Not much of a chance Kipchoge fails. I predict he will finish under 1:59:30. Plenty of breathing room to cruise down the finishing straight and look great for history.
I don’t care how many pacers there are, running sub-2 is far more difficult than sub-4 mile. It is historic.

We’ll find out whether or not Bekele is in his head.
If Kipchoge finishes around his prior mark or better the Olympics could be fvcking epic. Lots of unknowns/assumptions there, mostly regarding which Bekele shows up.
If Kipchoge bonks after being virtually flawless at the marathon I suspect it’s due to not being head and shoulders above the rest where I suspect Kipchoge thrives. In interviews Kipchoge or his coach mention that Kipchoge gets very nervous before races...
I’ll finish this by saying I think Kipchoge will do great this weekend and for the rest of his career. But speculation is a lot more fun when the GOAT enters the fray.
He will never bomb anything. Nike has to much $$$ invested in the shoes. I wonder what kind of space aged drug Nike is pumping into his veins. Anyone that thinks he's clean is out to lunch. Absolutely no way Nike would leave the vaporfly sub2 down to "chance" wonder how much $$$$ Nike would have lost if bombed the sub 2 project.
It's a big fat marketing drug scheme.
It won't make a bit of difference regarding his legacy.
NIke would hook him to the pace car with an invisible chain first.

Why does everyone seem to think that this time around?
I’m going with 2:01:10.
He'll go thru in 1 hour or a hair over at worst, then he'll do a slight negative split to get under.

You know this isnt sponsored by Nike.
Is the run still scheduled for Saturday?
NBC through the Olympic Channel is supposed to show it here in the US.

All 41 pacers are under contract with Skechers?

My take is 2:00:15, maybe a bit lower, but not breaking 2:00:00 . Wouldn't totally surprise me he hits the same mark as last time: 2:00:25.
