I am a 28 year old male runner who has been training consistently for the past year except for a 2 month injury in the summer. I ran a 1:32 half in the spring and am targeting a 1:28 half in the next couple weeks. I would like to progress faster and make a big improvement in a race next spring and want to know what kind of training I should do leading up to that.
mostly ~30 mpw all year, I do two workouts a week, where one of the workouts is part of a long run, this is done with a club.
Some recent workout examples...
5 x 1 mile @ 6:00/mile
10 x 2 mins @ ~6:25/mile + 10 x 1 min @ 6:00/mile
a long run one might be like 10 miles total w/ 5 & 6:30
Should I keep up with this kind of thing or try something else over the winter then go back to the club running closer to races? Was thinking of trying Tinman style training, Daniels, or even do summer of Malmo style stuff over the winter then pick up the intensity closer to spring race season. Obviously increasing mileage is pretty low hanging fruit but I find it difficult to increase mileage while doing intervals every week (shins usually get pretty sore).
