So I did a half this weekend and this guy was running vaguely near me for the first few miles. When we approached a water station at like mile 3, he stayed on the opposite side of the road from the water volunteers, 7 feet away from them, when the path was clear for him to move towards. He held his hand out at the water people and gestured at the water people, grunting, until an elderly volunteer twigged what he meant and literally had to run onto the course and run alongside him for a bit to give him a water bottle.
Was he an utter freak as I think, or is this something that "serious runners" expect from the water stations? I ran around 1h35 (I'm a woman) on this race and I saw him near me towards the end too, so we're in firm hobbyjogger country. I later heard him grunt "come on white boy" to himself later on, so I feel like he was just a weirdo.
DAE have any similar stories of weirdly entitled/just weird people in races?
