Many flukes ;-)
And put a big FAT asterisk on the Makh placings ahead of him.....

Pete Julian is a much better middle distance coach than Jerry.

Anyone of these guys can win a 3:50 race with a bit of luck (and some brains for sure), but only a true 1500 champ can dominate the race from end to end and clock sub 3:30.
Centro simply couldn't keep up. He has a shot only in slow, tactical races - not real 1500 strength.
Congratulations to Timothy Cheruiyot, the only true 1500 champ in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD, according to Some 1500 racing at last's personal record book.

Darn impressive race. I don't trust Centro's claim to be clean.

Centrowitz won a gold medal.
He got lucky and he's overrated and arrogant as all get out.

Are you blind, dumb or something? Did you read the post CAREFULLY? Or you're simply one of those mindless fools who just reply and pull the trigger and utter out something unbelievably stupid and don't care about it just for the hell of replying?
The OP clearly knows he won a gold and is saying what many of us already knew: it was a fluke and he can't keep up on a fast championship race.

Good thing it doesn't matter at all what you think because he did win and you can suck it
I think this video pretty much sums up how so many perceive Salazar/Centro/Rupp.

If, if, if, should have, could have, lucky, etc.
there is nothing worse in sports or life than this kind of loser talk. What happened is what happened. End of story. No bulls#it excuses.
Dude has an Olympic gold medal. 100% legit, and as legit as any other victory by any other runner in any other race. None of that other stuff means anything. The other runners on were on the same track and didn’t get it done. You can say they “could have done this or that”..... but they didn’t. It’s not like they were confused by the objective of the sport.

He read it and the OP’s post is bulls#it. Well, the first two paragraphs are complete bullshit. Leave those out and keep the last and it’s all good. The win was 100% legit and the OP is trying to cheapen it or discredit the gold. He got it done and the other racers didn’t get it done. End of story. Making excuses for the other runners is lame as hell. You don’t run races in theory. Strategy and tactics on the day are just as important and legitimate as anything else in the sport. What happened is what happened. Luck, ifs, should haves, could haves, might have been.....all of that is bulls#it. If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.

I don't think you understand the sport. Centrowitz accomplished what Ryun, Scott and Webb could not. Winning a gold is by far the biggest achievement in track. It was a brilliant, amazing win and the rest of us are not worthy.

Not real 1500 strength. What does that mean in reference to 1500 championships? Not running a WR in the Olys?
OK. That's valid, if comparing say Coe or ElG to Centro. Because it was won in 3:50?
But in terms of Championship performance, Centro is one of the best.
Centro has always been the best championship racer in comparison with his ability. He's got solid speed, but not great. He has solid fitness, but not exceptional. He almost always gets through the heats clean and then usually seems to know how to win the race at hand.
Rio 2016: Kiprop should have won the 2016 race, even run as it was, as a sit and kick. Makhloufi should have beat him too.
But Centro put himself at the front of a race that the whole group agreed to go out slow in (They were held up in the tunnel in Rio for a half an hour, far longer than was scheduled and none of them had the benefit of warming up again ) and he stayed there matching any surge. Unless charging after a rabbit in a fast diamond League race, Kiprop was too tall to hang in a pack and would settle at the back, and Centro knew this. At the 1k mark Centro had to use an arm bar and strong surge to keep from getting boxed just before the bell. Kiprop and Mack managed to get lined up for a kick but Centro fought each off mostly on the backstretch and on the turn. Centro kept ratcheting up his kick such that by the time they were all wound up to kick, Centro had put enough of a gap that no one closed.
So,the WR holder @ 3:26 was in the race and lost. So was the 2012 Oly champion. Both of them ran slower than 3:50 and lost. Makhfloufi is a sub 1:42 800 guy and he couldn't beat Centro in Rio.
Like it or not, most championship races are tactical with Rio, the most glaring example. But there is a lot more going on during the "sit" part that some superior athletes never master. Some of the best racers ever would not win a time trial. Some are better tacticians. Some are better when they are the biggest stage. Centro has never been great or even good at diamond league meets. Young Jakob is already more accomplished there than Centro. Ask Centro if he cares about that compared to a Gold Medal.
....I was critical at the time too, but when I just pulled it up on Youtube to watch again, It's quite clear who the best racer was that day. It may have seemed pedestrian, but watch the nuances Centro used and the others didn't . Centro's win was not a fluke. He wanted it more and played it perfectly. A fluke would be if he did it all by accident.
........All of this doesn't matter anymore because we are in the age of Cheruiyot and he is the best from any perspective.
No one will beat him until he moves on to another distance.
Well, the way I see it.....
Centro joined Jerry and proceeded to Not Race Hardly Ever, as per the custom in Jerry's group. Oh sure, there was this brilliant 5000m night at the Nike track not long ago, but this helped Centro prep for WC1500m how? He needed some actual 1500m here and there, maybe even 800m,
I'll say it agian: Jerry's group eschews racing to a fault.

If a tree randomly falls on you and kills you, are you still dead? If you serendipitously purchase a winning lottery ticket that ‘barely’ had the right numbers on it, are you still a lottery winner?
A) the guy had to be good enough to be in the race
B) he had to show up on that day healthy despite months of hard training
C) he had to be smart enough to not ruin his chances of winning with some tactical blunder
Sydney McLaughlin ran .03 off an existing WR and lost by .07. That sucks for 2nd place, but my point is it doesn’t matter if you run near WR or near grandma pace. What matters is, who crossed the line first? Centro did. It doesn’t matter how. He won gold. End of story.
Why does it have to be an either/or? Centro is a great runner. He's better in slower races & ran tactically great to win gold. Cheruiyot ran tactically great to win gold this year. His tactic was running faster than anyone else in the field could manage. Centro can't run 3:29. He took people out of contention & put his talent on display. There were 8 runners under 3:33. It's easy math, a slower pace keeps more runners in it & 400/800 speed will matter more. Someone like Centro can hold the rail and not let anyone pass him in a slower race with good positioning going into the last lap. I wouldn't call that a fluke but if you're someone who can run sub-3:30 maybe you're thinking about what Cheruiyot did before future finals.
He got a gold medal and deserves respect for that but it's clear that he will never ever come close to another gold again.
His actual career is just built on past glory.
I like races like Doha better, but the bottom line is Centro won that day in Rio the way everyone in the final chose to run the race.
He has the gold and will forever (unless he ever tests positive).
Centro will go to his grave an Olympic champion.
What will you be remembered for? Or will anyone remember you at all?

I thought the Centrowitz gold 1500 was incredible. He dominated. As an added bonus he got 20 extra seconds of time on camera from normal
