Can anyone give a good description of Gel Kayanos feel like when running?
Like wearing lead weights on your feet.
Just heavy? (It's not even 12 oz) Any other qualities?
Feels like weights on your ankles. Going from Nike’s to Kayano, it makes my calves ache and my legs feel heavy. Returned after 1 run.
They were the soft shoe back in the day, like 1995. Now there are many recovery or softer shoes for everyone at much better prices and weights.
12oz is already pretty damn heavy for a running shoe. And that's typically based on a size 9, so if you wear bigger sizes, the weight will just increase from there.
Kayanos get bought a lot by older folks looking for "orthotic" shoes, whatever the hell that even means. Just something to get around in every day that's more comfortable than their loafers.
People that run in them are not looking for performance, they're probably your Couch to 5k type person, needing something with a lot of structure and support to make up for unconditioned feet. They're fairly clunky, so they really only lend themselves to casual jogs and not much else when it comes to running.
