Rudisha turns 31 in September and says he hasn’t trained for a year and a half with a sitting bone injury. During that time, he’s put on 35 lbs (15 kg).
He’s still not training but seems to be over the worst of it and wants to defend his Olympic title in Tokyo.
He also said it’s been a rough couple of years. His father died last year and his marriage has been crumbling. He has also changed agents and his longtime training partner/pacer Sammy Tangui has retired.
But he’s also the GOAT. Everyone loves a comeback, I’ll be interested to see what Rudisha does in 2020.

He needs to join NOP and train with the American GOAT.
-
I hope for the sake of his legacy that he stays retired. You almost certainly have to be in sub 1:42 shape to win something like the Olympics, and I don't see him getting back there after what he has been through.

hes done - you read it here first.

Was coming to post this. Lost his dad, marriage broke down and a car crash that could’ve killed him.

Says there’s a chance he might train abroad. Rare for a Kenyan. But his criticism of Amos and Korir for inconsistency unfair. Both have had bad luck with injuries.

Going from being significantly over weight to elite for Rudisha will be a two year process. Can he be a sub-1:44 man at age 33 for 2021 W.C?
-
It says 18 months since he competed (I’m assuming he told them that) actually it’s 27 months. He says his father died in 2018,,,,,,,actually it was March this year. Looks too overweight. Unlikely to return.

The article reads like David Rudisha was happy to tell the reporters what they want to hear.
There is more of a chance he will end up in prison than return to top-class action on the track -
35 lbs? Maybe he should take up the shot.
-
Any photos of fat Rudisha?
-
He's pretty tall. from 800 shape, 35 pounds is just slightly non- athletic on him at his young age.
On the emotional side of it , 35 pounds is depression territory, glad he is holding on. -

good luck mr. Rudisha -
35 pounds isn't anything, since its a combination of muscle, fat, bone density, etc.
After the time off, he's primed to make some huge gains. Optimal hormone profile, optimal fat burning, optimal base metabolic rate, free of injury and accumulated fatigue and stress, etc. -

Elites lie and exaggerate all the time. I highly doubt he put on 35 pounds!!!!! -
In the article you linked to he says he's put on 12kg, which is 26 pounds. Still quite a bit of weight, but not quite 35. He probably isn't that fat by non athlete standards. Hopefully he pulls a Bekele next year

Being world class at the marathon in your 30s is one thing, being world class at 800 in your 30’s is something different entirely.
