He could win watered-down marathons against has-beens, but obviously got his butt handed to him when actual competitive marathoners showed up, or when the big, bad non-Ruppified weather made an appearance.
Then of course running THE OLYMPICS is easy when only 3 Kenyans and Ethiopians can run.
All the miniature dude had to do was run Dubai, or London, or Berlin. Then, it might not have taken nearly his entire career to run faster than American guys were running in the 1970s. Of course, without doping, Rupp wouldn't have won a bronze medal in the Olympic marathon. You know, not a gold like Shorter won twice.
You're complaining that Rupp ran in an Olympics when only 3 Kenyans and Ethiopians could compete, but you celebrate Shorter, who ran in the era of amateur athletics? In 1972, there was no monetary incentive in athletics AT ALL, and Kenya and Ethiopia had populations largely living in poverty. You're an imbecile if you think Shorter didn't have it MUCH easier than Rupp. Not so hard to win when most of your would-be competitors actually need to work for a living.
Shorter dropped out of medical school so he could train more effectively. You think his potential competitors in Africa and the rest of the third world could have done the same with their jobs?
